(NYSE: UTX), today announced that it has won a 10-year contract to maintain 105 units, including 23 Gen2® elevators with energy-saving ReGen™ drives, at the European Parliament inStrasbourg, France. Otis has been the maintenance provider for the four buildings that comprise the European Parliament inStrasbourgsince the main building, Louise Weiss, was completed in 1999. "Otis has a long history with the Urban Community ofStrasbourgand was the original service provider for the Strasbourg Parliament in 1978," said Pierre Dejoux, president, Otis North Europe andAfrica Area. "We are pleased to continue our partnership with the official seat of the European Parliament and remain dedicated to delivering the highest standard of service and expertise." The contract includes maintenance on 23 Gen2® elevators with ReGen™ drives, 43 Otis 2000 H elevators, 13 Otis escalators and 12 elevators that are handicap-accessible. The Gen2® elevator systems featuring ReGen™ drives reduce energy consumption by up to 75 percent compared to conventional systems with non-regenerative drives. In addition, the Gen2® system's flat, coated steel belts and gearless machine do not require any additional lubrication, making the system cleaner for the environment.
