- New Energy-Efficient Facility Reinforces Otis' Continued Investment in China and Overall Global Growth Strategy FARMINGTON, Connecticut, Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- OnSeptember 21, Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), announced the opening of a new LEED Gold standard plant inChongqing, a major city located in southwest China. The new facility, which has the capacity to manufacture over 15,000 elevator units annually, strengthens Otis' extensive investment throughout China, a market that now accounts for half of all global elevator sales. As the second factory opening for Xizi Otis, one of four brands under Otis China, this investment will extend its growing national network and further enhance customer support.

The factory employs highly efficient production processes, reducing energy usage and advancing environmental sustainability. Under the factory's LEED standards, 90 percent of the waste generated during the construction phase of the factory was recycled and carbon emissions were significantly reduced through a rigorous monitoring system and adoption of environmentally sensitive materials.
