RWE Generation: An International Generation Company to Strengthen the RWE Group for the Future
PR Newswire
ESSEN, Germany, January 2, 2013
ESSEN, Germany,January 2, 2013/PRNewswire/ --
Matthias Hartung to manage new company with 18,000 employees
Total power generation capacity of ~ 50,000 megawatts at more
than50 sites across Western Europe
International presence, local roots: This is the slogan chosen by RWE
Generation SE a new RWE business created to manage a power generation
capacity of around 50,000 megawatts at more than 50 sites across Western
Europe from1 January 2013.
http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20130102/586380 "This new international approach to power generation at RWE will help us to
ensure success in an increasingly difficult market environment," explained Dr.
Rolf Martin Schmitz, Executive Board member for Operational Management
(COO) and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of RWE AG. "This move will
strengthen the RWE Group for the future and cements our place as one of
Europe's leading energy utilities. It is an important milestone in progressing
our development programme, RWE 2015."
All of RWE's conventional power plants in Germany, the UK and the Netherlands, as well as RWE Technology GmbH, have been combined to form a new company which will be incorporated as a European joint stock
company (Societas Europaea - SE for short).
Newly appointed RWE Generation CEO, Matthias Hartung, said, "Price
trends for energy resources and electricity are hard to predict. Future market
mechanisms remain unclear and subject to change. Renewable energies are
becoming more and more important in the European market. Conventional
power plants can only hold their own in today's environment if they are highly
efficient, protect the climate and are able to work very flexibly," emphasised
Matthias Hartung. "Our 18,000 employees have the highest level of expertise
and know-how, and I know that, with this new RWE team working on the
operation and continued development of our assets, we can establish
ourselves at the top of Europe's power generation sector."
In conclusion, Matthias Hartung, added, "RWE Generation will combine the
advantages of a cross-country organisation with RWE's strong presence in
our core market countries." This is why the Chief Executive Officers of the
national companies - Paul Massara at RWE npower in the UK and Erwin van
Laethem at Essent in the Netherlands - will remain the immediate contacts
for politicians and the public. "This is how we intend to make our generation
business fit for the future."
The foundation of RWE Generation's business strategy is the sharing of best
practice and technical expertise across international boundaries to provide
the best solutions for the whole business. Moreover the commercial entities
will work increasingly closely with the operating units.
Dr. Frank Weigand (Chief Financial Officer), Alan Robinson (Chief
Commercial Officer), Dr. Ulrich Hartmann (Lignite / Nuclear Energy /
Hydroelectric Power portfolio), Roger Miesen (Hardcoal / Gas / Biomass
portfolio ) and Erwin Winkel (Human Resources) also belong to the
Executive Board of RWE Generation.
