Stockholm Boasts Most Expensive Hotel Rates in Europe, Survey Shows
PR Newswire STOCKHOLM, Sept. 6, 2012
STOCKHOLM,Sept. 6, 2012/PRNewswire/ -- Stockholm is the most expensive destination inEuropebased on the cost of its lodging. That's the finding of a new survey from CheapHotels.org, which compared hotel rates for 30 main destinations inEuropeduring the period spanning June throughAugust 2012. The rankings were determined based on the cost of each location's cheapest available double room (minimum: 2-star hotel). As such, the prices behind the rankings reflect the minimum amount travelers had to spend to stay at a certain European destination this summer. InStockholm, summer 2012 travelers had to pay, on average,111 Euros($139) for the cheapest available hotel room. At that price, the Swedish capital was only slightly more expensive thanEdinburgh, Scotland, the second-place finisher at an average of109 Eurosnightly. Rounding out the top 3 wasVenice, Italy, where the average overnight accommodation rate was103 Euros. Least expensive, by far, wasAthens, the capital and largest city inGreece. There summertime visitors could have snagged a room for only23 Eurosper night, on average. Also at the bottom of the list, and perhaps a bit more surprisingly, were the capital cities ofBerlin,RomeandMadrid. All three popular locales came in with summer rates below50 Eurosper night.
