Time-Critical Cargo Flown on DC-3 Aircraft Charter

PR Newswire

LONDON, October 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Chapman Freeborn's South Africa team sprang into action recently with an urgent "go-now" cargo aircraft charter to transport parts for an automotive manufacturer.

A delay in the supply chain could have led to a halt in production - but the parts were successfully delivered in less than 16 hours. Working on a tight timescale, the cargo was cleared and trucked from Johannesburg to Rand Airport where it was flown to East London.

What makes this time-critical charter even more amazing is that it was completed on a Douglas DC-3 aircraft which has been in active service since 1943.

The DC-3 revolutionised air transport in the 1930s and 1940s and its lasting impact on the airline industry makes it one of the most significant transport aircraft ever made.

There aren't many left in service - but the aircraft's legendary versatility means that even 70 years on it still has a role to play. Its ability to take off and land unpaved runways makes it a valuable aircraft in developing countries - and elsewhere the DC-3 is still in use for everything from passenger services to skydiving trips.

About Chapman Freeborn: Chapman Freeborn offers private jet charters  award-winning cargo charter services for outsize cargo, urgent freight, project cargo and dangerous goods, as well as aircraft leasing services and on board couriers (OBC) for urgent transportation requirements.
