Information Society Policy Link European Society: Education, Training & Youth Celebrating eLearnìng A range of re-useable digital lesson units developed under the CELEBRATE project have given European schools access to a new generation of e Learning resources. The project's centrepiece was a demonstration Web portal of small, digital lesson units or "learning objects" that can be reused and combined to build tailor-made courses for tomorrow's lessons. Launched in November 2003, the portal initially offered access to around 350 learning objects (LOs) and several thousand digital assets to teachers across six countries. Some 320 schools signed up to test the content, which has now been opened up to schools all over Europe through European Schoolnet, a co-operation network between the European ministries for education. Initial testing was very encouraging. In an online focus group of 40 teachers, the LOs achieved a satisfaction rating of 66%. The project also organised two 3-day summer schools where teachers had the opportunity to test the second phase of LO development and to look at how to author LOs using user-friendly templates specifically developed within the project.
