NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC YOUNG PEOPLE’S CONCERTS
®
TAKE YOUNGSTERS TO “RAVEL’S PARIS,”
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2008, AT 2:00 P.M.
Delta David Gier Is Conductor and Host of the Young People’s Concerts,
Which This Season Explore “Capitals of Music”
Delta David Gier will take youngsters to “Ravel’s Paris” when he leads the New York
Philharmonic in the second program of this season’s New York Philharmonic Young
People’s Concerts (YPC), Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. The theme this
season is
“Capitals of Music,”
a year-long journey to four cities to explore why they
were so fertile for the creation of great music. The November 22 concert will explore
Paris — the crossroads of the 20th century — with music by Ravel, Satie, Debussy, and
Stravinsky. The award-winning playwright Tom Dulack is the scriptwriter and director.
The next YPC (Saturday, March 28, 2009) focuses on
Mozart’s Vienna,
the city that
was home to Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. The final program,
Mussorgsky’s St.
Petersburg
(Saturday, May 2, 2009), will celebrate the sumptuous Russian tradition
of orchestral music, with works by Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Borodin, and
Tchaikovsky. These concerts are also conducted and hosted by Delta David Gier, with
Tom Dulack, the scriptwriter and director.
All concerts are preceded by
Kidzone Live!,
an interactive music fair, where children try
out instruments and hear musicians perform, on the Grand Promenade and upper tiers of
Avery Fisher Hall, at 12:45 p.m.
