N. Mitsos, Hiroshima, Japan, November 28, 2005.
Yesterday I visited the new Martin (Mitsubishi Heavy Ind.) WTE plant in Hiroshima.
The architect is Yoshio Taniguchi, who also did the MOMA in NYC. It is an
astonishing plant. One would never suspect that 600 tons per day of garbage are
burned there. Young couples bring their children to play on the grounds. Old folks
walk their dogs. One guy was fishing behind the plant. Attached are some photos I
took. The right portion of the plant (as one is facing the sea) is the grate system and
gas cleaning. On the left is the ash processing. Ash is sent across the plant by
conveyor below the observation deck.
