Step 2 - Installing Sophos Antivirus Software

System Overview

To improve the ability to contain and quarantine virus

or worm threats, Information Technology Services (ITS)

has acquired threat management software.

All staff home computers using the previously

distributed McAfee Antivirus software must uninstall

the McAfee solution and install a new Sophos solution.

Staff who fail to remove the McAfee solution from all

home machines or continue to request antivirus up-

dates from McAfee may be required to submit a per-

sonal payment to McAfee.

The Sophos antivirus solution is available for machines with

Microsoft Windows Operating Systems 2000, XP or Vista;

older operating systems (95, 98, ME etc) and MAC OS are

not supported.

Please note that staff with machines

having older operating systems must still remove the

McAfee solution.

As with the process for your work related machine,

it is important that all Microsoft Critical Updates be

scheduled on your home computer in addition to

whatever virus protection you may elect to use.

NOTE:

ALL ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE MUST BE

UNINSTALLED AND THE COMPUTER REBOOTED

PRIOR TO BEGINNING THE SOPHOS ANTIVIRUS

SOFTWARE INSTALLATION.

The download version of the

Sophos Antivirus

software

is recommended for fast (DSL) Internet connections. Log

in from the M-DCPS Sophos Antivirus Web site at:

http://antivirus.dadeschools.net/.

If the home Internet connection is slow, Sophos can be

downloaded on the office workstation; then transferred to

a USB flash drive (50MB) for home computer installation.
