3 Things to Make Your Truck Job More Memorable This Summer As good a career as truck driving can be, few would dispute the fact that sometimes drivers can struggle with monotony. After a while, all the scenery begins to look the same. One mile turns into another, and another, and still another. We have been in the business a long time, so we know quite a bit about monotony. But we also know that there are things drivers can do to spice things up.

Summer is now here, so this is the time to take advantage of the warmer weather when you're driving. Below are three suggestions of things you can do tomake your truck job more memorableand less monotonous. Whatever you do, remember to be safe on the road. 1. Embark on a Weight-Loss Program If there's one thing truck drivers need more of it is exercise. We are constantly encouraging our drivers to get more exercise whenever they have downtime. Not only is it good for overall health, but exercise can also be used to enhance a larger goal of losing weight. This is exactly what our first suggestion is all about. You can make your truck job more memorable this summer by embarking on a weight-loss program designed to shed those extra pounds before the first freeze of autumn. Scheduling a weight-loss program over the summer with a defined fall deadline provides the motivation to get out and get some exercise. Any measure of success will result in a sense of satisfaction in the knowledge that you can lose weight and improve your health if you want to. Some drivers invoke the participation of their family members for mutual accountability. They see who can lose more weight before the autumn deadline, and they track one another's progress by sending daily or weekly results via e-mail. 2. Create a Picture Scavenger Hunt Drivers with elementary school children can embark on a memorable summertime exercise that involves creating a picture-based scavenger hunt. Here's how it works: You decide on a list of objects you want your kids to find as they work through the hunt. All of those objects will be found in pictures that you take while you travel. Then you combine the pictures with a series of clues to point the kids in the right direction. They will get the opportunity to track where you are going and play the scavenger hunt at the same time. It is something you and your kids will remember forever.

3. Take a New Driver Under Your Wing The summer season typically sees an increase in new drivers as young people finish school and embark on their careers. That also means summer is a good time for veteran drivers to take a driver or two under their wings and show them the ropes. That does not mean riding with a new driver, but it does mean staying in contact and meeting up whenever paths cross. Mentoring new drivers is one of the most memorable and meaningful things you can do as a veteran. Knowing that you have helped others succeed by passing on years of wisdom and experience is incredibly satisfying. It is akin to giving back to an industry that has provided you with a lifetime of employment. Summer will be gone before you know it. Why not take advantage of the season to make your truck job more memorable, more exciting, and more fulfilling? The other option is to let yourself get stuck in a rut that allows monotony to set it.
