Several survivors of the actual sinking of the Titanic visited the set while this terrific dvd was being made. The lucky stuffed pig used in the show is the one Edith Russell had with her aboard the ill-fated vessel on that April night in 1912.

Another real life survivor (from second class) named Lawrence Beesley attempted to enter the set and (this time) symbolically ‘go down with the ship’. He was prevented from participating since the he was not an actor and would be contravening union rules if he appeared inside the movie.

The opening footage of the commencingof Titanic is actually a shot of the Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth being launched in 1938.

No footage exists of Titanic’s introducing.

Character actor George Rose plays the baker who survives the sinking by getting drunk on whiskey, thus temporarily insulating his body against the icedwaters of the Atlantic. In 1988, while on a trip to the Dominican Republic, George was murdered by his adopted son, the young man’s birth father, and two others. Michael Goodliffe portrays Andrews the builder of the Titanic who went down with the ship. In 1976 he leapt to his death from the upper floor of a hospital.

Keep your eye on a female guest inside scene at the captain’s dinner table aboard Titanic. As she sprinkles salt on her meal the top accidentally falls off the saltcellar and dumps the contents on her meal. After the briefest of pauses she stoically continues as if nothing has happened.
