As a DocumentaryFamily Photographerthese “An Afternoon With” sessions have really opened a window for me and allowed me to take more and more of the kind of family photographs that really appeal to me and that I know mean the world to my clients.

It’s taken me a little while now to put my finger on whyI love these sessions as much as I do but it all boils down to two words: pure moments. That’s all it is. Simple, pure moments, concentrated on a very select handful of people.

Unlike my wedding work where my job is to tell the story of the day my job with these family photography sessions is to really distill it all down and capture the personalities and quirks of each family and the fun that they have together.

It’s obviously a huge privilege to be welcomed into someone’shome, to chill out with them, for kids to show me their favourite toys, read me their books and whisper silly stories in my ear from school. I absolutely love these afternoons.

The Cornhills were a dream to photograph. Faye is a super talented photographer herself so I felt a little nervy on the drive there but I needn’t have worried. Within seconds of meeting up we were all laughing together and I knew I was in for a lot of fun.

Together with Phil, Harry, Grace and the especially cool Stanley the labrador we took a stroll through the woods, running and jumping and playing on old rope swings.

Afterwards we headed home. These guys are moving home soon and this sessions was partly organised to photograph a little of the happiness that exists within these walls before they begin a new adventure very soon.
