How Apple & the Vend iPad POS are Revolutionizing Retail A close friend of mine walked out on her job two weeks ago. She was fed up with the long commute, even longer hours, and a rude boss, so she left. Ever happen to you or someone you know? Well, here’s the cool thing: in just those two short weeks she started a catering business from a hobby that she enjoyed pursuing over summer and the holidays. Her website is up, she takes orders online, and she delivers her meals locally. What’s even cooler: most of the time she conducts her business using just her iPad. Throughout our country’s great history we have been a land of dreamers, capitalists, and entrepreneurs. Now with phenomenal mobile device technology and ground-breaking point of sale software, these brave souls actually have some of the most affordable, accessible business tools ever available. You don’t need expensive hardware, a tech team, or the knowledge of a webmaster to get a business up and running. You just need $200 equipment and a few hours to set up and integrate your software. This literally means thatanyone, anywherehas the potential to be their own boss. If that isn’t a revolution for retail, I don’t know what is. The possibilities for this innovation are limited only by the ways that entrepreneurs can imagine implementing it. For example, crafters at fairs, delivery services, independent hair stylists, event planners, food trucks, and the ever-growing field of freelance driving (aka Uber and Lyft) all depend on their capabilities to be mobile. With an iPad pos they can track inventory, schedule appointments, process sales, and sell products online. Not only was Vend the first company to create a cloud based POS system four years ago, but they are also the only one to partner with Apple to deliver a world-class solution for retail businesses. During its Q2 2015 earnings call,Apple announcedthat it is working with a select group of business app developers to bring innovative mobile solutions for business to iPad users, and most notablyVend. According to Luca Maestri, Apple’s CFO, this focus is a result of growing interest from organizations looking to use iPads to transform how they do business. As one of the greatest innovators and entrepreneurs of our time, it is fitting that I leave you with this word of advice from Steve Jobs: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma – which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
If you are running a retail store, in today’s ever-changing world of consumer buying behavior, having a tools like apple pay and an ipad pos system can make a major difference in your bottom line. If you’re not too familiar with Vend’s ipad pos, you can learn more here.
