Don’t torture your eyes – learn how to enjoy technology without hurting your sight.
This is a big one that most of us do too much of – torturing our eyes with a bright screen for hours at a time. The thing is, though, that our age of technology is far from the founder of this problem. It started back in 1941, when the television began its prominent takeover of the radio across the world and has only gotten worse with smart phones, laptops and other devices. Each device has its own issues, and they’re all guilty of causing severe eye strain and degradation of sight.
The problem with television:In the last 70-75 years of its history, television has become widely popular among all age groups. The problem with television is that we’re exposed to large amounts of television from a young age. Parents are using television as a teaching tool for children from as early as a few months old. Our minds learn that several hours in front of the television is a normal thing, and thus, our obsession with the glowing screen is born.
While television is a great advocate for education and educational learning, this is causing permanent damage to our sight and the way our eyes function and develop. There’s nothing wrong with watching television, or television on your home computer, cell phone or other devices, but do so in moderation. There are tons of commercials to help us get up from where we’re sitting and stretch so there’s no reason to use television as an excuse for your cause of eye strain and eye strain headaches. Use commercial time as a chance to give your eyes the break they deserve and look away for a few minutes, maybe out a window or into a book, while the ads play, and remember to take a

break for it entirely every few hours or so. This will help with headaches, pain from eye strain, posture and a number of other benefits.
The problem with computers: Computers are great tools that are used for various purposes. They are great for working at home; working at an office, writing, blogging, having video conversations with long distance loved ones, school work, research, and tons of amazing stuff. The problem with computers is that we spend way too much of our time on some kind of computer. Between cell phones and computers, we are immersed in a culture that values the internet and functionality above all else, but we are hurting our eyes by forcing them to stare at a screen for multiple hours at a time.
The eye strain caused by computers has a few solutions. Whether you’re at work, at school or at home, set an alarm so that you give your eyes a break every 20 to 30 minutes. This will help sustain healthy vision and functionality in your eyes. There are also certain products on the market that help with reducing eye strain from long-term computer use that act like goggles. These are a good investment for office workers, professionals and casual users alike.
The problem with cell phones: Cell phones are the newest fad to hit the market – everyone’s gotta have one. They don’t just make calls; they allow you to play games, take pictures, chat with your friends online, surf the internet, and lots of other things to occupy your free time. The problem with cell phones is we’re so attached to them that we don’t notice the eye problems they’re causing until it’s too late.
The solution to eye strain and reduced vision caused by cell phones is minimal, but can still be drastic over time. Make sure that when you’re http://www.PerfectVisionTherapy.com
using your smart phone, you keep the phone at a good distance from your eyes. If you notice your eyes getting tired, try bringing it closer or further away. If the distance doesn’t help, put it away for a while. Also, make sure the brightness of your screen isn’t affecting your eyes and don’t be afraid to adjust. Some phones have an auto-adjust that will help keep the phone at an appropriate brightness to avoid eye strain, too. Overall, the message is this: Make sure electronic screens aren’t hurting your eyes! Take breaks, use distance to your advantage and keep brightness appropriate! And don’t forget to blink! Your diet and lifestyle affect your eyes One of the most important changes you need to make, not just for the health of your eyes, but for your general health as well, is to quit smoking! We all know smoking is bad for your health, but there are some hard truths about why that cigarette is ruining your sight. Cigarettes are more likely to cause cataracts, nerve damage and degradation and they can also affect your tear ducts. Quitting is really hard, but keep trying! There are medications, treatments and therapies to help you on your journey free of nicotine! Here’s what else you should be doing: Eat more foods with Omega 3’s, fatty acids, zinc, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and luteins!http://www.PerfectVisionTherapy.com
These are foods that will help maintain and improve vision. Some examples of foods in these categories are; fish, eggs, beans, green vegetables and fruits. We all know we need to eat more of these, so this is just another reason to get our diets back in shape. Wear sunglassesWearing sunglasses will help greatly with eye sight because the sun does cause a great deal of damage on the naked eye. There are all different kinds of sunglasses to suit your needs, and they’re stylish, too. Avoid irritant makeup, like eyeliners and mascaraIf you like to dress up and wear makeup, then I’m sure you know a few horror stories about eye irritation from them or have a few yourselves. If you’re going to wear eyeliner or any makeup that could get into your eye, make sure you know the product quality and materials. Some of the cheaper, off-brand eyeliners can cause serious, permanent damage to your eyes. Go with a brand and liner you trust and go back to the same maker for variations. Don’t risk your eye sight because you can’t spare the cash right now. Glasses and surgeries are a lot more expensive and bothersome. Last but not least, don’t be afraid to see a doctorIf your eye sight is suffering, please see an ophthalmologist – or eye doctor. The sooner you get your eyes checked on, the better you can watch out for degradation or vision problems. If you need glasses or contacts, always pick glasses. Contacts can be terrible for your eyes, too. Speak with your doctor about your options. http://www.PerfectVisionTherapy.com
Basic and Advanced Eye Exercises to Sustain and Improve Your Vision Here are some basic and advancedeye exercisesthat you can do to help sustain and improve your vision. They can be done a few times a day, a few times a week, or whenever you feel that your eyes could do with a bit of an exercise. i. Blinking Let’s start with an easy one! All those bright screens and distractions are making us forget to blink more! Take 2 to 3 minutes to just sit and blink every few seconds – not too fast, but not too slow either. Once you’re finished, see if your eyes feel any different. To keep healthy eyes, we have to blink. Blinking not only gives our eyes a bit of resting time in those few moments of darkness, but it also helps to cleanse and moisten our eyes. ii. Palming Make sure your hands are clean for all palming techniques. These can be enhanced by breathing deeply or making it part of your meditation regularly. These will help relax your eyes and remove any eye strain you’re experiencing. It also helps to do it every day because you have probably endured some eye strain during your day. - Rubyour hands together until they’re nice and warm. Take your palms and cover your eyes with them for a few moments with your eyes closed and taking precaution not to cover your nose or let any light in. Just relax for a few moments there, until your palms go back to a normal temperature. http://www.PerfectVisionTherapy.com
- Anotherway of doing it also starts with warming your palms, closing your eyes and placing your palms over your eyes. This time, though, massage your upper cheeks gently with the heat whilst keeping your eyes closed. Try to make circular motions cycling into your nose. This can also be done with a warm towel or a warm compress and massaging sections of your eyes, such as your eyebrows, eyelids or full face. iii. “Toinfinity, and beyond!” Imagine a figure eight, or an ‘infinity’ symbol in front of you. Trace the symbol with your eyes as slowly as you can. When that gets tiring or you feel yourself drifting, try tracing it the other way. This is a good technique to keep your eyes moving and functioning properly, and it’s also great for helping with eye co-ordination. You can also try tracing words, numbers or pictures to keep it interesting! iv. Changeyour point of focus. This is another really simple exercise and can be done anywhere, anytime. Take a few minutes out of your day to change your focus and improve your near or farsightedness. Focus on something far away for about 30 seconds. Blink and relax. Then focus on something further away for about 30 seconds. Relax again. Do this exercise a few times a day to improve your focus and vision and restore poor sight and function. v. Tick, tock… imagine a clock! Imagine a clock in front of you (Or use a real one if you’d like). Start at 12, then look to the middle, then 1, go back to the middle, and follow http://www.PerfectVisionTherapy.com
this all the way around the clock 2 or 3 times. You can also do this exercise with your eyes closed. This will help re-focus your eyes and improve eye sight and restore function in your eyes. Conclusion As you can see, there are many very simple ways you can change your lifestyle that will help your eyes long term. By changing your technology habits, adding a few things to your diet and doing some eye exercises, you can tone and improve your eye sight without the use of expensive laser surgery, frustrating glasses, awkward contact lenses or the use of experimental procedures. And remember, if you feel concerned about your vision, make an appointment with your ophthalmologist and get them checked! You only have one pair of eyes, so treat them well!
