Rental Space for Hairdressers in Salt Lake City: the Benefits of Independence Nearly all of the reputablehair salons in Salt Lake City offer booth rental to independent hairstylists looking for a professional environment in which to serve clients. Curl Co. is among them. Therefore, it should be no surprise that we frequently talk to stylists who cannot seem to make up their minds between regular employment and booth rental. Needless to say, there are pros and cons with both options.
In this post, we want to present the benefits of utilizing rental space to maintain independence. Keep in mind that being an independent hairstylist is not right for everyone. There are some who do better working as employees of salons like ours. If you believe independence is right for you, there are many great reasons for going this route. Day-To-Day Control of Business When you work as an employee at one of the hair salons in Salt Lake City, your day-to-day tasks are controlled by your employer. There is likely a shift manager or salon manager on site at all times, making sure each employed stylist does things according to company standards. By the way, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is just good business. On the other hand, independent stylists who utilize rental space are self-employed business owners. They are their own bosses, making all of their own decisions from day-to-day. They control every aspect of their businesses as they see fit. The only caveat here is that they must conduct their businesses in a way that does not damage the reputation of the salon. Extremely Low Overhead If an independent hairstylist decides to open her/his own salon, she/he will soon discover there is a tremendous amount of overhead that comes with it. Overhead includes things such as retail rent, utilities, equipment, styling supplies, labor costs, office expenses, and so on. The overhead needed for salon booth rental is cut drastically.
For example, renting space at Curl Co. includes a receptionist to greet your clients, a bio on our website, and booking services in person and online. We also provide the chair, shampooing stations, a personal supply cabinet, and more. As for utilities and site maintenance, we already have that covered as part of our regular business model. Your overhead is limited to your personal supplies and your office expenses. Freedom and Flexibility As self-employed business owners, salon renters are free to make their own schedules according to their lifestyles and preferences. Some independent stylists only work part-time to provide supplemental income for the family. Others choose to work full-time in a lifelong career as a business owner. Whatever you choose to do is entirely up to you. You set your own schedule and choose your own clients.
Maximum Creativity Behind the Chair Employee hairstylists are often encouraged to be creative behind the chair. However, that creativity has limits. Salon owners and managers would prefer their stylists stay within specific boundaries in order to limit liability and protect their customer base. An independent stylist renting booth space is under no such restrictions. He or she can be as creative as clients dictate. What the individual stylist and client agree on is entirely up to them. Hair salons in Salt Lake City offer booth rentals to independent stylists because it boosts their business by bringing customers in the door and increasing revenue streams. Stylists appreciate the opportunity to rent space because it allows them to operate their own businesses without the added cost of owning a salon. In the end, we all win.
