EDUCATIONALPHILOSOPHYMeet Emma. She was born in the Information Age. In order to succeed and excel in the lobal marketplace, she needs to acquire skills relevant to st 21 century communities and opportunities. Unfortunately, many schools are still operating under Industrial Age instructional models. Gardens School of Technology Arts will provide Emma a learning environment aligned with the Next Generation Florida Sunshine State Standards utilizing a framework st established by the Partnership for 21 Century Skills. This framework includes:
st Core subjects with 21 century themes
Learning and innovation skills
Information, media and technology skills
Life and career skills
st 21 century support systems
Our educational philosophy values diversity in the learning process. Multiple intelligences and different learning styles are supported, creativity and innovation are stimulated, and emphasis is placed upon immediate application within real life situations and through community involvement. Technologyrich tools and webbased enhancements bring the learning process into the future and bring engaging new dimensions to the classroom.
INSTRUCTIONALDELIVERYMODELGardens School of Technology Arts will utilize an innovative, researchbased instructional model adapted from Project CHILD (Changing How Instruction for Learning is Delivered). In this model, teachers serve as specialists in core academic areas across three grade levels, providing consistency for students as well as instructional expertise in reading, writing and mathematics. Other characteristics of this model include:
Projectbased, investigative learning
Differentiated instruction for multiple intelligences
Individual goals and daily learning portfolios
Integrated curriculum (core/arts/technology)
Critical thinking and problem solving
Collaboration and exchange of ideas
Global perspective and community involvement

OURTEACHERSOur teaching staff will be comprised of individuals who are capable of both nurturing and challenging students. In addition to being formally certified, teachers will receive consistent, specialized professional development to foster an individualized approach to teaching children.
The model we are implementing will employ teachers who are specialists in one core academic area (reading, writing or math) to teach three grade levels. This teambased approach to education allows the instructional staff to specialize as well as provide continuity of instruction and personalized adaptation for students over three years. Social sciences, arts and technology will be integrated throughout. Paraprofessionals will provide support and allow the teachers to extend learning in small groups and onetoone instructional periods.
Educators at Gardens School of Technology Arts seek to tap each child’s potential and coach them into higher achievements than even the students themselves would have thought possible.
CLASSSIZESThe school will adhere to current legislated limits for class sizes. Utilizing the educational delivery model adapted from Project CHILD, there will be many periods of the day when children will enjoy smaller group ratios and even onetoone instruction, in order that we might provide the kind of individualized educational experience that will assist each child in meeting and exceeding personal goals.
ASSESSMENT& TESTINGAs a public charter school, we are required to participate in FCAT. However, our approach to preparing students for success on standardized tests is to set goals higher than the tests and help the children achieve those goals. Our intent is to provide a rich, engaging learning environment so that FCAT skills development is a natural outflow of the students’ pursuit of individual goal achievement. Of course, FCAT may necessitate additional coaching for some students, and we will ensure that this assistance is provided.
Assessment and progress tracking will occur on a daily basis as part of each child’s personalized learning plan. The school will utilize systematic and comprehensive assessments, both formally and informally, and parents will be kept apprised of their child’s accomplishments and of any areas needing additional support.

FREQUENTLYASKEDQUESTIONSWHATISACHARTERSCHOOL? Charter schools are public schools of choice created through an agreement or “charter” between the school and the local school board. This agreement gives the charter school a measure of expanded freedom relative to traditional public schools in return for a commitment to meet higher standards of accountability. Many charter schools in Florida have innovative missions with themed learning approaches focusing on areas such as arts, sciences and technology. WHATISTHESCHOOLTUITION? A charter school is publicly funded, so there is no tuition charged for students to attend. We are continually fundraising in order to fund our startup and capital needs, much of which are not covered by public funding. Additionally, donations may be requested from our families to help replenish consumable items or support special student projects that are not adequately funded. WHATGRADESAREOFFERED?
