Quad Double Arithmetic in Lisp Richard Fateman Computer Science University of California Berkeley, CA, USA October 17, 2007 Abstract In a numerical calculation sometimes we need higher-than double-precision floating-point arithmetic to allow us to be confident of a result. One alternative is to rewrite the program to use a software package implementing arbitrary-precision extended floating-point arithmetic such as ARPREC or MPFR, and try to choose a suitable precision.
