Summary:he concept o a Vrtual Observatory (VObs) s tat te entre world’s as- tronomcal data sould eel lke t sts on te astronomer’s desktop, analysable wt a user selected workbenc o tools and made avalable troug a standard nterace. he European Vrtual Observatory, Euro-VO, s te European mplementaton o ts dea, wc ams at gvng users seamless access to te eterogeneous, dstrbuted, and n gen- eral reely accessble data and servces provded by te astronomcal data centres. he EuroVO-AIDA project wll lead te transton o Euro-VO nto an operatonal pase. EuroVO-AIDA ntegrates te networkng, servce and tecnology actvtes o Euro-VO nto a ully unctonng system. he result wll be an operatng knowledge nrastructure tat enables and stmulates new scentic usage o astronomy dgtal repostores.

Objectives:he top level objectve o te EuroVO-AIDA project s to lead te transton o te European astronomcal Vrtual Observatory to operatons, by: • large scale deployment by the community of data centres, • the construction of a community of science users, • R&T for completing work required for key parts of the VObs infrastructure, in par- tcular or te evoluton o nteroperablty standards and te assessment o new tecnologes.

Action plan:EuroVO-AIDA ntegrates networkng actvtes, servce actvtes and jont researc actvtes to perorm all te aspects o work needed durng ts transton, n- cludng lason wt oter communtes and outreac towards ger educaton and te general publc.

Networking activities:EuroVO-AIDA networkng actvtes tackle co-operaton nsde te project and wt relevant communtes, dssemnaton o knowledge, ncludng te spreadng o good practce, and te collaboratve aspects o te development o te Vr- tual Observatory nteroperablty standards. Networkng wll operate: • Among the project participants to dene the Euro-VO strategy; • Between the project and the European astronomical community, on the diĒerent aspects o te Euro-VO: wt te user communty, .e. te wole European astro- nomcal communty; wt te communty o astronomy data repostory provders; wt all te European teams wc partcpate n te tecncal development o te Vrtual Observatory ramework, nsde te project and rom oter countres. Scen- tic Worksops, Data Centre Worksops, and Tecnology Forums wll n partcular be organsed or tat purpose; • Between the project and the other participants in the astronomical VObs endeav- our: te Internatonal Vrtual Observatory Allance and te oter natonal VObs projects outsde EU; • Between the project and other communities: on one hand, with other scientic com- muntes wc may be nterested to sare deas and lessons learnt or te develop- ment o ter own data and knowledge nrastructure; on te oter and, wt com- muntes wc develop generc concepts and tools wt possble applcaton n te astronomcal Vrtual Observatory context, suc as te Dgtal Lbrary projects.
