Instant-Activity Kits
Classroom Suite
includes 30 instant-activity kits. Each
kit includes an Activity ready for students to use, a
Template ready for teachers to create additional similar
activities quickly, and a PDF file of this tutorial.
Fairy Tales
The Fairy Tales instant-activity kit includes the Fairy
Tales Goldilocks activity, the Fairy Tales Template, and
a PDF file of this tutorial. You can find these
components by opening the Language Arts Templates
folder and then the Fairy Tales folder in the New area
of
Classroom Suite
.
The Fairy Tales Template enables you to create
sequencing and writing activities based on well known
fairy tales: Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding
Hood, Three Little Pigs, and a story of your own
choice. The activities you create can be used as the
focus for a class discussion, as a stimulus for writing
and sequencing, or as a quiz.
In this tutorial, you will start by exploring the Fairy
Tales Goldilocks activity. Later in the tutorial, you will
learn to create customized spelling activities, using the
Fairy Tales Template.
Universal Design
The activities you create using the Fairy Tales
Template and
Classroom Suite
are designed for all
students, including those with physical or cognitive
disabilities.

Introduction
Create a Folder for Your New
Activities
When you use this template, you will be creating new
activities for your students to use. To organize these
activities, you will want to create your own folder in the
Activities area of
Classroom Suite.
1. At the Navigation Screen, click the Activities
button. Click the New Folder button on the right
side of the screen. A dialog box will ask you to
name the folder. Give it the name of one of your
classes (e.g., Mrs. Smith’s Class).
2. Open the Fairy Tales Template (see page 3).
3. When you complete your work with the template
and click the Finish Activity button, the Save As
Activity dialog appears. Name your new activity,
select the folder in which you want to place your
work, and click OK. Your new activity will now be
available for you to assign to students.

for each story segment at the left. The student’s
task is to sequence the parts of the story of
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
.

comparative words: big, small, hard, soft, hot, cold.
8. Use the word banks to write sentences telling what
Goldilocks said about chairs, beds, and porridge.
9. Close this activity without saving.
You can use this Fairy Tales Goldilocks activity
immediately with students.
In the next part of this tutorial, you will learn to use the
Fairy Tales Template to create additional sequencing
and writing activities about favorite fairy tales.
The Fairy Tales Template enables you to create
language arts activities that are suitable for early
readers and writers. This template includes three
different sets of fairy tale sequences (Little Red Riding
Hood, Three Billy Goats Gruff, and Three Little Pigs),
customizable word banks for writing, and an
opportunity for you to add a story of your own choice
for sequencing and writing.
Opening the Fairy Tales Template
1. From the Navigation Screen, click the New button.
2. Open the Language Arts Templates folder.
3. Open the Fairy Tales folder and choose the Fairy
Tales Template. The Fairy Tales Template displays.
4. See the instructions on page 1 of this tutorial to
learn how to create a special folder to store the new
activities you make with this and other templates in
Classroom Suite
.
5. From the File menu, select Save As Activity. Save
your activity as
Fairy Tales Pigs
. It will now be
saved into the Activities folder.

right, for example Three Little Pigs.

the other choices, click Start Over again and select
Three Little Pigs.
4. A new toolbar displays at the top of the page, with
Tell Story and Write buttons.
5. Correct answers have already been specified for
each of the 9 answer fields for Three Little Pigs, so
you do not need to enter any answers.
Correct answers have also been specified for
Three Billy Goats Gruff and for Little Red Riding
Hood.
In the next part of the tutorial, you will create a custom
word bank for students to write about the story of
Three Little Pigs.
