Previous      Home      NextBook 27 Daniel27:001:001 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim kingof Judah came           Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem,and besieged           it.27:001:002 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judahinto his hand, with           part of the vessels of the house of God: which hecarried into           the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and hebrought the           vessels into the treasure house of his god.27:001:003 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz themaster of his eunuchs,           that he should bring certain of the children ofIsrael, and of           the king's seed, and of the princes;27:001:004 Children in whom was no blemish, but wellfavoured, and           skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge,dna           understanding science, and such as had ability inthem to           stand in the king's palace, and whom they mightteach the           learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.27:001:005 And the king appointed them a daily provisionof the king's           meat, and of the wine which he drank: sonourishing them three           years, that at the end thereof they might stand
before the           king.27:001:006 Now among these were of the children ofJudah, Daniel,           Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:27:001:007 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gavenames: for he gave           unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and toHananiah, of           Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and toAzariah, of           Abednego.27:001:008 But Daniel purposed in his heart that hewould not defile           himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor withthe wine           which he drank: therefore he requested of theprince of the           eunuchs that he might not defile himself.27:001:009 Now God had brought Daniel into favour andtender love with           the prince of the eunuchs.27:001:010 And the prince of the eunuchs said untoDaniel, I fear my lord           the king, who hath appointed your meat and yourdrink: for why           should he see your faces worse liking than thechildren which           are of your sort? then shall ye make me endangermy head to           the king.27:001:011 Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the princeof the eunuchs had           set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,27:001:012 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days;and let them
           give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.27:001:013 Then let our countenances be looked uponbefore thee, and the           countenance of the children that eat of the portionof the           king's meat: and as thou seest, deal with thyservants.27:001:014 So he consented to them in this matter, andproved them ten           days.27:001:015 And at the end of ten days theircountenances appeared fairer           and fatter in flesh than all the children which dideat the           portion of the king's meat.27:001:016 Thus Melzar took away the portion of theirmeat, and the wine           that they should drink; and gave them pulse.27:001:017 As for these four children, God gave themknowledge and skill           in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel hadunderstanding in           all visions and dreams.27:001:018 Now at the end of the days that the king hadsaid he should           bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchsbrought them in           before Nebuchadnezzar.27:001:019 And the king communed with them; andamong them all was found           none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:therefore           stood they before the king.2u7n:d0e0r1s:t0a2n0d inAgn,d t ihna ta tllh em kaittnegrs of wisdom and
           enquired of them, he found them ten times betterthan all the           magicians and astrologers that were in all hisrealm.27:001:021 And Daniel continued even unto the first yearof king Cyrus.27:002:001 And in the second year of the reign ofNebuchadnezzar           Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams, wherewith hisspirit was           troubled, and his sleep brake from him.27:002:002 Then the king commanded to call themagicians, and the           astrologers, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans,for to shew           the king his dreams. So they came and stoodbefore the king.27:002:003 And the king said unto them, I have dreameda dream, and my           spirit was troubled to know the dream.27:002:004 Then spake the Chaldeans to the king inSyriack, O king, live           for ever: tell thy servants the dream, and we willshew the           interpretation.27:002:005 The king answered and said to theChaldeans, The thing is gone           from me: if ye will not make known unto me thedream, with the           interpretation thereof, ye shall be cut in pieces,and your           houses shall be made a dunghill.27:002:006 But if ye shew the dream, and theinterpretation thereof, ye           shall receive of me gifts and rewards and greathonour:
           therefore shew me the dream, and theinterpretation thereof.27:002:007 They answered again and said, Let the kingtell his servants           the dream, and we will shew the interpretation of it.27:002:008 The king answered and said, I know ofcertainty that ye would           gain the time, because ye see the thing is gonefrom me.27:002:009 But if ye will not make known unto me thedream, there is but           one decree for you: for ye have prepared lying andcorrupt           words to speak before me, till the time be changed:therefore           tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye canshew me the           interpretation thereof.27:002:010 The Chaldeans answered before the king,and said, There is not           a man upon the earth that can shew the king'smatter:           therefore there is no king, lord, nor ruler, thatasked such           things at any magician, or astrologer, or Chaldean.27:002:011 And it is a rare thing that the king requireth,and there is           none other that can shew it before the king, exceptthe gods,           whose dwelling is not with flesh.27:002:012 For this cause the king was angry and veryfurious, and           commanded to destroy all the wise men ofBabylon.27:002:013 And the decree went forth that the wise menshould be slain;
           and they sought Daniel and his fellows to be slain.27:002:014 Then Daniel answered with counsel andwisdom to Arioch the           captain of the king's guard, which was gone forthto slay the           wise men of Babylon:27:002:015 He answered and said to Arioch the king'scaptain, Why is the           decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch madethe thing           known to Daniel.27:002:016 Then Daniel went in, and desired of the kingthat he would           give him time, and that he would shew the king the           interpretation.27:002:017 Then Daniel went to his house, and made thething known to           Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:27:002:018 That they would desire mercies of the God ofheaven concerning           this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should notperish           with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.27:002:019 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in anight vision.           Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.27:002:020 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be thename of God for ever           and ever: for wisdom and might are his:27:002:021 And he changeth the times and the seasons:he removeth kings,           and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto thewise, and           knowledge to them that know understanding:
27:002:022 He revealeth the deep and secret things: heknoweth what is in           the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.27:002:023 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God ofmy fathers, who           hast given me wisdom and might, and hast madeknown unto me           now what we desired of thee: for thou hast nowmade known unto           us the king's matter.27:002:024 Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whomthe king had           ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: hewent and said           thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men ofBabylon: bring me           in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the           interpretation.27:002:025 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the kingin haste, and           said thus unto him, I have found a man of thecaptives of           Judah, that will make known unto the king theinterpretation.27:002:026 The king answered and said to Daniel, whosename was           Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known untome the dream           which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?27:002:027 Daniel answered in the presence of the king,and said, The           secret which the king hath demanded cannot thewise men, the           astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shewunto the           king;27:002:028 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth
secrets, and           maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar whatshall be in the           latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy headupon thy           bed, are these;27:002:029 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came intothy mind upon thy           bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and hethat revealeth           secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to.ssap27:002:030 But as for me, this secret is not revealed tome for any           wisdom that I have more than any living, but fortheir sakes           that shall make known the interpretation to theking, and that           thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.27:002:031 Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a greatimage. This great           image, whose brightness was excellent, stoodbefore thee; and           the form thereof was terrible.27:002:032 This image's head was of fine gold, his breastand his arms of           silver, his belly and his thighs of brass,27:002:033 His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and partof clay.27:002:034 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut outwithout hands, which           smote the image upon his feet that were of ironand clay, and           brake them to pieces.27:002:035 Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, thesilver, and the
           gold, broken to pieces together, and became likethe chaff of           the summer threshingfloors; and the wind carriedthem away,           that no place was found for them: and the stonethat smote the           image became a great mountain, and filled thewhole earth.27:002:036 This is the dream; and we will tell theinterpretation thereof           before the king.27:002:037 Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the Godof heaven hath           given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, andglory.27:002:038 And wheresoever the children of men dwell,the beasts of the           field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given intoeniht           hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all.Thou art this           head of gold.27:002:039 And after thee shall arise another kingdominferior to thee,           and another third kingdom of brass, which shallbear rule over           all the earth.27:002:040 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong asiron: forasmuch as           iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things:and as iron           that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces andbruise.27:002:041 And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes,part of potters'           clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided;tub
           there shall be in it of the strength of the iron,forasmuch as           thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.27:002:042 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron,and part of           clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, andpartly           broken.27:002:043 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed withmiry clay, they shall           mingle themselves with the seed of men: but theyshall not           cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixedwith clay.27:002:044 And in the days of these kings shall the Godof heaven set up           a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: andthe kingdom           shall not be left to other people, but it shall breakni           pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and itshall stand for           ever.27:002:045 Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone wascut out of the           mountain without hands, and that it brake in piecesthe iron,           the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; thegreat God           hath made known to the king what shall come topass hereafter:           and the dream is certain, and the interpretationthereof sure.27:002:046 Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon hisface, and           worshipped Daniel, and commanded that theyshould offer an           oblation and sweet odours unto him.
