Description

The Christmas Bowl program has been supporting Act for Peace's project partners around the world for more than 60 years. It is an important symbol for churches, schools and individuals all around Australia who work together to promote peace, justice and partnership.
The program started in 1949 when Rev. Frank Byatt placed an empty bowl on the dinner table during Christmas and asked guests to put in the bowl the cost of their meal, so that it could be distributed to people displaced from their homes due to World War II. Since then, the Christmas Bowl has raised over $100 million to help war-torn communities, thanks to our generous and committed supporters.
Act for Peace empowers war-torn communities to reduce poverty, protect refugees and prevent further conflict. Our project partners are currently assisting people in many of the world's worst conflict-affected areas, including Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Zimbabwe, the Middle East, Burma and Sri Lanka.
Act for Peace is a member of the global ACT Alliance which works in more than 140 countries worldwide, enabling us to respond immediately and effectively to emergency situations as they occur.

Serves 6-8 Ingredients: 1.4 kg chicken pieces   cup butter 1 large clove garlic, minced 1 tsp berbere (recipe below) 3 tbsp tomato paste ½ tsp black pepper   cup peanut butter ½ cup chicken stock 2 onions, chopped 1 hard boiled egg per person Berbere Seasoning: Mix and store the following spices in an airtight bottle: 1 tsp ground ginger 3 tbsp cayenne pepper ¼ tsp ground cloves ½ tsp cinnamon Instructions: 1  Remove the skin from the chicken and s the chicken meat. 2  Melt the butter in large pot and sauté the onions and garlic for 5 minutes. 3 Add bere, the tomato paste and the chic ck. Cover the ot and simmer for 15 min 4 Stir in e chicken on a time, stirring so that the chicken g ated. Simmer for about 20 minutes. 5  Take out some of the liquid and stir th butter into t d liquid. Return mixture to t ile stirring. 6 Lightly score nd gently place in the pot. 7 Cover and ooking until the chicken is well cooked. 8 When cooked, spoon a serving of the to the injera (see recipe p. 5) and serve.
