Booking a Low Fare
Flight with Travelocity
ShortGuides.com Tutorial Version 1.1

Travelocity is an excellent travel tool.
It can be particularly useful tool for booking flights, or even determining
the cost of flights.
It can also be very useful for finding low fares for flights, if your travel dates can be flexible.
Finding low fares with flexible travel dates is the topic of this tutorial, though you can also just use it to find the
cost of fares, without actually purchasing tickets.
From the Travelocity main page, you will
find a section entitled
Fast Fare Finder
.
Below that, you must enter the following
information:
Leaving from:
this is your departure city
Going to:
this is your destination city
Number of Adults
traveling
The key to finding low prices is to have the
any date choice selected for
Show me low
fares for:
Click on the
Go!
Button to see available
dates for your flight.
You may see the following screen after
clicking on the
Go!
Button.
Travelocity
requires that you create a FREE account
with them in order to put tickets on hold or
to purchase tickets.
You can, however, still
use the site to find fare information without
registering.
Click on the
Be Our Guest
button to move on to the next step without
registering.
(If you want to sign up for an account
before moving on, click on the
Become a
Member
button, although that is not
covered in this ShortGuide).
You will then see a list of possible airlines
that generally offer flights from your chosen
departure city to your chosen destination
city.
It will work like this:
You choose your airline, and you will
see a list of possible dates that you can
fly on.
It’s possible that the airline you
choose from here will not be able to
accommodate your travel plans, in
which case, you will need to come
back to this screen to choose a
different airline.
It can be a very time
consuming process, but that’s the trade
off for finding low fares.
Click on the blue
Select
button to choose
your desired airline.

After clicking on the
Select
button, you will
be shown a calendar of dates that you can
choose your Departure date.
The dates in
Yellow
are available dates for
your departure.
Click on the date you
would like to fly out on.
In the example on
the right, I selected September 8
th
.
It’s possible that the date you choose for
departure will not actually be available.
If
this happens, you will be presented with a
screen such as that on the right.
In this
example, the dates in September which are
blocked in red are not available.
It could
take quite a few tries until you find a date
that is available.
After selecting your departure date, you will
have to follow the exact same process to
select a
Return
date.
In the example to
the right, I chose September 16
th
as the
return date.
You will then be presented with a list of
possible flights that match your selected
dates.
It is possible, likely even, that you
will have to select a flight that has a
layover.
Again, that is the tradeoff for
getting a low fare for your flight.
To choose a particular departure flight,
click on the blue
Select
button.
You will then follow the same process to
select a Return flight.
To choose your
desired Return flight, click on the blue
Select
button.
You will then see a screen that will allow
you to review your selected itinerary.
If you
want to purchase your flight right now, you
will see a blue
Buy
Now
button.
Or, you
can Hold the reservation for 24 hours
before purchasing.
To put your
reservation on hold, click on the
Buy Later
button.
In this example, I clicked on the
Buy Now
button to purchase the tickets.

In order to purchase tickets or put tickets
on hold, you will have to become a
member of Travelocity.
To become a
member, click on the
Become a Member
button.
If you are already a Travelocity
member, skip the next screen.
After clicking on the
Become a Member
button, you will see a screen that prompts
you to enter in your personal information,
including mailing and shipping addresses.
Be sure you enter correct information here,
otherwise you may not be able to purchase
tickets, or your purchased tickets may not
get mailed to the proper address (yours).
After you enter your information, scroll
down the page until you see the light blue
I
Agree
button.
After clicking on the
I Agree
button, you will be able to continue your
purchase, as a member of Travelocity.
You will now see your itinerary, along with
the actual cost of the tickets, along with
applicable taxes and fees.
Keep in mind:
the tickets purchased
through Travelocity in this manner on non-
refundable.
You MUST check the box that indicates
that you understand that the tickets are
non-refundable.
Scroll down and click on
the
I Agree
button and you will continue on
with the purchase of your tickets.
You will now need to enter the information
about the Passenger(s).
Once entered,
the names on the airline tickets cannot be
changed.
You can also select meal
preferences from this point, as well as any
other special services that you may require
for your flight.

Tavelocity also offers you the option to
choose your seats on your flights.
In my
experience so far, this feature has not
worked easily, so I would recommend
scrolling down and clicking on the
Bypass
Seat Maps
button.
Scroll Down…
After bypassing the Seat Maps, you will be
able to enter your credit card information
and click on the
Continue
button and your
tickets will be purchased.
Your tickets will
then be delivered to you in the mail.
