PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings San Jose Members and Friends,

Please join us for our next monthly lunch meeting on Wednesday, April 7th, 2010. We will be joined by Carina
Ruiz, a senior manager in Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Treasury practice. Cash and investments can be a source of
security for an organization but they can also be a source of risk. Market volatility and the speed of onset of
material events can put an organization’s very existence at stake. Come here about the latest risks and what
Internal Audit can do to provide assurance in the areas of counterparty and commodity risks, FX risks and
intercompany netting practices and investment policy risks.

Please register online at http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaID=200809 by Monday, April 5th, 2010.
Walk-in registration may be limited by space available so pre-registration is strongly advised.

We also have a variety of upcoming events that you should mark on your calendar:

1. The Certified Internal Auditor designation is great way to demonstrate your commitment to, and
proficiency in, the profession of internal auditing. The San Francisco and San Jose chapters are again
offering our very successful multi-day CIA prep course, to be held April 19-22, 2010 in San Francisco.
You can take prep courses for all sections, or just the sections where you need some extra help. Details
are available on our web site at www.theiia-sj.org.
2. We are again offering our very successful social and networking event for members on Wednesday,
April 21 from 5:00PM to 8:30PM at Piatti Ristorante in Santa Clara. Details are available on our web site
at www.theiia-sj.org.
3. Our May 5 meeting is our annual meeting for election of officers and Board of Governors members.
Our speaker will be Mr. John Hall a professional speaker, seminar instructor and business consultant.
John’s lunch topic will focus on building fraud risk assessment into audit planning. Please register
online at for the May lunch meeting at http://www.acteva.com/booking.cfm?bevaID=200810 by
Monday, May 3, 2010.
4. Also on May 5, John will be holding a full day program at the Biltmore, scheduled around our lunch
meeting, entitled “Fraud Issues & Answers for Internal Auditors: The Auditor’s Role in Fraud
Prevention, Detection and Handling. Details are available on our web site at www.theiia-sj.org.
Please not that registration for the full day session with Hall Consulting does not include lunch.
Registration for the May 5 chapter lunch meeting must be made separately.

Please visit our chapter web site www.theiia-sj.org for the latest in chapter resources, including speaker’s
presentations and materials, when available.

As always, I welcome any constructive comments regarding the chapter to build on our past successes and
maintain a vibrant chapter that provides value to our members.
