Once you have been registered on the ExperimenTrak system, you
may proceed to the ExperimenTrak site (http:\\shsu.experimentrak.net).
At the ExperimenTrak main screen (see screen image below), the default is set as Participant Login. In order to login as a researcher,

---- LOGGED IN ----
Once you’ve logged into ExperimenTrak, you will come to an opening screen or Researcher home page (see screen image below) that
provides any announcements from the Research Coordinator. There will also be 4 menu items at the top of the screen:
DEPARTMENT, PERSONAL, HELP, and LOGOUT. Each of these is discussed in detail below:
DEPARTMENT
Clicking on DEPARTMENT provides a drop down menu containing the following items for all of the projects being offered by the
entire SHSU Department of Psychology: ANNOUNCEMENTS, EXPERIMENTS, SCHEDULE, and DEMOGRAPHIC.
ANNOUNCEMENTS provides any announcements from the Research Coordinator
EXPERIMENTS provides a list of all of the projects currently being offered on ExperimenTrak by the SHSU Psychology
Department faculty and graduate students. You may also view the titles of each of the projects, type of study, study
description, and name of the person in charge of the project.
SCHEDULE provides a calendar so that you may view a schedule of events.
DEMOGRAPHIC provides demographic information for all of the participants registered on ExperimenTrak.
PERSONAL
Clicking on PERSONAL provides a drop down menu containing the following items for your own projects: EXPERIMENTS,
SCHEDULE, and PROFILE.
EXPERIMENT provides a list of all of the projects that you are currently offering on ExperimenTrak (see screen image below).
Adding or altering additional experiments/projects can be done from the EXPERIMENT webpage and is discussed in more
detail below.
SCHEDULE provides a calendar and all appointments that you have for all of your projects.
PROFILE allows you to change any of your profile information (i.e., password, e-mail address, phone number, etc.).

Clicking on HELP provides a drop down menu containing the following items: FAQ, CONTACT RESEARCH COORDINATOR.
FAQ provides a list of many frequently asked questions. Click on the different questions to see the answers to those questions.
CONTACT RESEARCH COORDINATOR allows you to send the Research Coordinator an e-mail. Use this option if you are
unable to find information or if you need to make changes to your profile that are locked.
LOG OUT
Clicking on LOG OUT exits you from the ExperimenTrak system. Always log out of ExperimenTrak when you are done, particularly
when using a public terminal, to prevent others from accessing your records.
-- CREATING AN EXPERIMENT/PROJECT --
In order to create a new project, you must access the Experiment screen (PERSONAL – EXPERIMENTS). Once at the Experiment
Screen you simply click on the CREATE NEW button at the bottom of the screen. If you’d like to update or make changes to an
existing project, simply click on a specific experiment from the listing of Experiments on the Experiment screen and you will be taken
to the screen for that Project.
CREATE NEW
Clicking on the CREATE NEW button will take you to a screen that will allow you to enter various project parameters so that you can
create a project that participants can volunteer for. A sample screen for an experiment called “Remembering Faces” is shown below.
This screen requests specific information about your project. Each field has a small question mark (?) icon with some explanatory text
to help you enter the correct information. It is best if you have this information available since some of the information, once entered,
cannot be changed later.
Once you’ve completed all of the required information, click on the SUBMIT CHANGES button at the bottom of the screen. You
have now created a new experiment/project.
EXPERIMENT SCREEN
To get to an individual Experiment Screen, simply click on a specific experiment from the listing of Experiments on the Experiment
List screen (PERSONAL – EXPERIMENTS) and you will be taken to the overview screen for that Project.
EXPERIMENT
Clicking on EXPERIMENT from the individual Experiment Screen provides a drop down menu containing the following items for
your experiment/project: OVERVIEW, SETTINGS, FILTERS, TIME SLOTS, APPOINTMENTS, COMPLETED SESSIONS, POST
CREDIT, FUNCTION & REPORTS, and EXIT EXPERIMENT. The Experiment Screen allows you to refine a study or update or
make changes to an existing project.
OVERVIEW provides a summary overview of your study. It lists the status of your experiment, the number of signups you have,
the number of appointments, uncredited sessions, points, and percentage of no shows.
SETTINGS provides the general information that you entered when you originally created your experiment/project (see screen
above). You may use this screen to make changes to your experiment although you may not be able to alter some of the
items. If you make any changes to your experiment/project settings be sure to click on the SUBMIT CHANGES button to put
these changes into effect.
FILTERS provides you with a helpful screen that allows you to prescreen or filter individuals who can sign up for your
experiment. There are three types of filters that you can use. The Demographic filter allows you to include specific
individuals such as if you only wanted to test female participants or individuals between the ages of 18 and 25 (see Filter
Screen below). Please note that the filter limits who can even see your experiment. For example, if you selected female for
your filter then all female students will be able to view your experiment but male students will not be able to see your
experiment. The Course filter allows you to make your experiment available only to certain courses. The Pool Count filter is
a handy feature that shows you how many registered participants are eligible for your experiment based upon your selection
criteria (the current Demographic Filter settings).
TIME SLOTS provides you with a screen (see screen image below) that allows you to enter testing times that allow participants
to sign up for. The time slots option has three options: Add Bulk Timeslots (this is the normal time slot option), Add Interval
Time Slots (this allows you to schedule numerous appointments in specific successive intervals), and Locations (this allows
you to add a specific testing location if your location isn’t listed).
APPOINTMENTS provides a list of time slots that have been filled by participants. This allows you to view each of your time
slots and allows you to obtain the names of the individuals scheduled, allows you to e-mail the volunteers, and this is also the
location that allows you to credit the entire group (assuming all of the individuals showed up).
COMPLETED SESSIONS
POST CREDIT allows you to award research credits to participants who have completed your experiment/project. There are 3
ways to administer research credits: SESSIONS, UNSCHEDULED, and BATCH LOAD. SESSIONS provides a list of time
slots and participants who have completed your experiment/project. You can award participants their credit from this screen.
To award credit, simply ensure that the correct credit is being awarded and then click Process Credits. If a participant signed
up for one of your time slots but failed to appear for the appointment, you should award this person with negative credits. To
award a No Show click on the Now Show button and change the credit to a negative credit (-1, -2, etc.). It is also possible to
award credit to a participant even if they did not sign up for your study using ExperimenTrak. Under the POST CREDIT
menu, simply select the UNSCHEDULED option and fill in the appropriate information. BATCH LOAD allows you to
award credits to a large group of unscheduled participants.
FUNCTION & REPORTS provides a screen that allows you to obtain various types of information about your experiment/project
(see Experiment Function screen below).
EXIT EXPERIMENT allows you to exit the specific experiment/project that you are working on and returns you to your
Researcher Homepage.
