Mining For Gold In Your Lists
Marketing experts agree there is gold in your mailing lists. I agree. Using the Internet enables us to build massive mailing lists. Lists of contacts, buyers and like−minded individuals that we can benefit from, by doing business with. The problem is, how do we integrate web data into our office databases and how do we import it into other tools we can use to mine this gold?       Using on−line services like Listbot, Aweber and the right CGI programming on your site will allow you to maintain delimited databases. Using your browser you can view these databases and save them to your hard drive in PLAIN TEXT format. Your browser only understands it as "plain text" when in fact, it is really delimited text.       Using Microsoft Excel you can create databases, compare, link and sort information. What I want to show you is how to use this collected information to your benefit. As a web developer, these are some of the most common requests I get from clients. How do I manage this data? − or, What do I do with this? How can I extract this information? How do I pull this information into our database? This solution I will tell you about will work with ANY program that will serve your records in a delimited format. It will work for Internet records and office records, so you can literally have a much closer interaction with the web from your office. This translates into better access to your clients, by being able to move, sort, retrieve and send information both ways.       You might have to put your "thinking cap" on to figure out various ways you can use this solution. With the right CGI programming you can create a database of people who have bought from your web site, and compare this list with your "opt−in" list. By filtering names and sorting the databases you can accurately determine the percentage of buyers you have from your "opt−in" list. This can be used for testing various offers. See what will increase this percentage, and help you decide what might be more profitable ways for developing your business.       When you have a ratio figured out, and you know exactly what percentage of your subscribers are buyers, then you have information you can use. From the calculated LTV (Life Time Value) of your customers, you know exactly what you are willing to pay for NEW customers. This will also help you determine the cost / effectiveness of promoting and advertising for new additions to the list .       Lets start by getting these lists from the web into a format you can use. || Order Now $49.00 ||

Retrieving Your Data
The example I am going to show you is from using Listbot to manage my "opt−in" list. Different services and programs will have different ways for you to retrieve data. To get the data in PLAIN TEXT format from Listbot I had to choose "View all demographics" from the control panel. This information displayed in my browser. From the "File menu" I chose to save this as plain text.       I know in the picture that the names are too blurry to read. I blurred them intentionally to protect the privacy of my subscribers. This is simply to show you the layout achieved with the method I will describe to you. You can see that everything is formatted well. Information is contained within columns, and this is how we want it. Fields are separated. This is good! || Order Now $49.00 ||
