CLASSIFICATION SYSTEMS - 1 -
INTRODUCTION
This report contains statistical data (time-series) of the trends in
patent filing activities in the EEC from 1969 "to I98O, more precisely
for the following Member States :
Belgium
Federal Republic of Germany
Prance
Netherlands
United Kingdom
The purpose of the report is to offer "basic data for studies concerning
issues like R&D or Innovation indicators.
As to the details of the material used, the reader is referred to the
Selection Table hereafter, which presents the number of published patent
applications covered by the information source on which the present
report (except Part I) is based.
The report is composed of 3 parts :
- Part I is a presentation of the publicly available statistical
data of the WIPO for all the EEC Member States, Portugal,
Spain, USA and Japan, covering the filing years 1969-1982;
- Part 2 is a presentation of the material according to the techno­
logical classes of the IPC, as a function of the countries
of origin of the inventions;
- Part 3 is a statistical presentation of the material of Part 2
according to the NACE classification system, leading to an
industry-oriented technology pattern.
The statistical material used for this report was kindly placed at our
disposal by the European Patent Office (EPO). - 2 -
