Executing the Command This command creates the 3D equivalent of a selected 2D object. If a 2D object with no 3D equivalent is selected, a beep sounds, and the command is not executed. Several 2D objects can be selected at one time. The command executes only for objects with 3D equivalents. To create a 3D object from a 2D object: 1. Select the 2D object. 2. Select Mechanical > Create 3D Object from 2D . Note: If an object Properties dialog box opens, click OK to close it. The 3D object is created with the same parameters as the 2D object.

This tutorial contains procedures for creating a 2D shaft comprised of various shaft segments, a key, and a hole. This 2D shaft is then turned into a 3D object with the Create 3D Object from 2D command. Note: The following procedures list only those parameter values that must be changed. For all other parameters, leave the default values.
Creating a 2D Shaft Access any of the three VectorWorks Mechanical workspaces. If working in the Mechanical workspace, select objects from the Object Browser. If working in the Mechanical - 2D or Mechanical - 3D workspace, select objects from either the Object Browser or from the appropriate tools palette. 1. Select File > New . Make the following selections to open the VW_Mechanical (Inch).sta document template.
