file on your computer. You are now ready to install Pop-Up Stopper! Please make sure
you have closed all other programs including browsers and email programs. Double-click
this exe file and the Install Wizard will begin to install Pop-Up Stopper. You will need to
click the Next button to continue installation. After you click the Finish button, you are
ready to begin Setup!
Setup
Pop-Up Stopper comes with a Setup Wizard that will guide you through the simple
process of installing and using Pop-Up Stopper. Please read the Installation tips and
guidelines. For example, the first screen of the Setup Wizard reminds you that, while
Pop-Up Stopper is running, you will need to hold the CTRL or Shift key to open a new
browser window or follow a link in an email.
The next screen gives you the option to have Pop-Up Stopper start when windows starts.
If you do not want Pop-Up Stopper to start with Windows (when you reboot or turn on
your computer) you will need to clear this checkbox.
Pop-Up Stopper will place a shortcut icon on your desktop that you may click to start
Pop-Up Stopper at any time. The icon will look similar to the following:
Note: If the Pop-Up Stopper Welcome screen still appears the next time you start Pop-Up
Stopper, please try clearing the ‘Show Welcome Screen’ check box in Preferences. Close
Pop-Up Stopper and re-open, and you should be set!
The next screen sets pop-up control. You will want to leave this boxed checked to
prevent pop-up windows. We will show you how to change settings soon! The next
screen allows you to configure a sound and/or flashing icon whenever a pop-up window
is blocked. This feature is also useful to remind you that Pop-Up Stopper is running, in
case a link doesn’t open when you want it to - remember, just hold CTRL or Shift and
click the link again!
The final screen shows you how Pop-Up Stopper will run on your system, as a System
Tray icon by your clock:
(Pop-Up Stopper’s White Icon - the red X means pop-up control is ON!)
Configuration
All Pop-Up Stopper settings are accessed from the Preferences Menu, found by right-
clicking the System Tray icon, shown above. Pop-Up Stopper’s main settings are all in
the right-click menu, and in one main screen, called Preferences. To access Preferences,
right-click system tray icon and select Preferences. Right-click the icon and you will see
this menu:
(Pop-Up Stopper right-click menu - from here you can change any setting, or disable
Pop-Up Stopper quickly!)
Surfing with Pop-Up Stopper - Configuration Options
Do not allow Browser Pop-up Windows.
This menu item should have a checkmark next to it, in order to stop pop-up windows.
This mode will prevent ALL pop-up windows from appearing while surfing. This
includes small pop-up and pop-under windows, and multiple pop-up windows that often
appear while surfing. The control restrictions of this mode prevent all new browser
windows from opening. If you are using Pop-Up Stopper and need to follow a new link,
such as opening a new browser window or following a link in your email, simply hold
down the Control CTRL or SHIFT key when clicking the link.
(Pop-Up Stopper Preferences Screen - from here, you can change your settings!)
Start Pop-Up Stopper when Windows Starts
The first checkbox gives you the option to have Pop-Up Stopper start when windows
starts. If you do not want Pop-Up Stopper to start with Windows (when you reboot or
turn on your computer) you will need to clear this checkbox.
Display welcome screen when Pop-Up Stopper starts
This screen will appear when Pop-Up Stopper starts, to remind you of Pop-Up Stopper’s
location in your System Tray, and remind you to hold CTRL or Shift if to open a new
link or new browser window. It is suggested that you let this screen appear the first few
times you use Pop-Up Stopper, until you are familiar with the program location and
settings.
Enable aggressive pop-up control
Pop-Up Stopper allows Internet Explorer users to enable aggressive mode which will
only allow one browser window to be active and prevent any new windows when
clicking links. You may allow a new window by holding down CTRL or Shift when
clicking a new link. When not using aggressive mode, Pop-Up Stopper will allow most
new links in email and web pages to be launched without interruption.
Play a sound when a pop-up window is prevented
You may select a sound to play when a pop-up window is prevented. The system comes a
short, unobtrusive sound. The user may select any sound of their choice and is not
restricted on the length of the sound file. If a sound notifies you that a pop-up window
has been blocked, and you wish to view the window, simply hold the CTRL or SHIFT
key and refresh your browser, or click the link again.
Flash system tray icon when a pop-up window is
prevented
The system tray icon will flash briefly to alert the user that a pop-up window has been
prevented. If a flashing icon notifies you that a pop-up window has been blocked, and
you wish to view the window, simply hold the CTRL or SHIFT key and refresh your
browser, or click the link again.

Frequently Asked Questions:
I am having problems with Internet Explorer in general, opening new links, or viewing
web page content.
Please see our Support page for articles from Microsoft on fixing most Internet Explorer
problems!
Links in my Email no longer open when I click on them. What can I do?
Pop-Up Stopper is designed to control more than one instance of a browser window, in
order to stop multiple forced exit windows, and other unwanted pop-ups. To visit new
links, or follow a link in your email program, either briefly disable pop-up stopper by
double-clicking the system tray icon, or hold SHIFT or CTRL when following a new
link.
I get an error when I try to play Solitaire or other Windows games, or when trying to use
my Printer
Users using Windows 95 or 98 may find that they receive occasional errors if Pop-Up
Stopper is running while a game is being played. This problem is not present in Windows
98SE or higher. Simply Exit Pop-Up Stopper via the right-click menu if you experience
this problem, or try Pop-Up Stopper Pro for advanced pop-up control features in a handy
browser toolbar!
Pop-Up Stopper isn’t working for me, and I am using Internet Explorer.
Please try Repairing Internet Explorer from the Add/Remove Programs menu in Control
Panel. Some programs change browser settings needed in order for Pop-Up Stopper to
function correctly. To repair Internet Explorer, go to Control Panel / Add/Remove
Programs and select Internet Explorer. Select Add/Remove and then choose Repair. You
may be asked to reboot. This should solve most pop-up control issues.
Important: You should also try setting the product NOT to start when Windows Starts.
Then, Exit and reopen Pop-Up Stopper. If this works for you, please let us know - we are
trying to determine why this problem exists on some systems, so please give us your
system details when emailing us.
I still get pop-ups with Pop-Up Stopper running, even on
Aggressive setting!
Please confirm you are not running any Adware or Spyware programs, which serve their
own pop-up ads. You can download the FREE program, AdAware, to scan for programs
that serve their own pop-ups!

Pop-Up Stopper works great but I get Runtime Errors every time it blocks a pop-up. How
can I solve this?
Please make sure you have your browser settings set to not display an error about every
script error. Please go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, in Internet Explorer. Please
clear the box marked ‘Display a notification about every script error’ under Advanced
Internet Options. Also, make sure ‘Disable Script Debugging’ is checked. If this does not
work, please let us know.
Does Pop-Up Stopper support Netscape browsers?
The free Pop-Up Stopper currently supports Internet Explorer and Netscape 4.x only.
Netscape 6.x is not currently supported.
