SMC Environmental Audit Recommendations:
Water
Opportunities for improvement: irrigation system
and plant selection
• Irrigation controllers, spray nozzles, and improved system
maintenance (leaks) can save money and staff time
• Native gardens save money via reduced water and chemical
use, green waste production and maintenance. Adopting a
drought tolerant policy can also add to a more cohesive
campus-wide aesthetic
Participate in City efficiency programs
• Landscape Grant Program—up to $20,000 for drought
tolerant gardens. Institutions can apply more than once!
• Rotary sprinkler head retrofit program
