Description
The palaeoecological study of the large mammal fauna excaved by Sirodot in 1872, mostly based on the association of the Ungulates following their ecological affinities, permits the description of the landscape all around the layer of Le Mont-Dol : it is mostly composed by a large short grass openland with some little groves and foret-galery. Paleontological evidences (presence of Equus caballus germanicus and Dama dama) and the data of geological and micromammals studies let us thinking to a Melisey II age for the Mousterian occupation. A first taphonomie approach of the fossil material is still engaged showing some evidences of the human activity on the fauna (mar- row-fraturating, cut marks, burned bones). The mousterian Man was very active at Le Mont-Dol.
