timierten Single-Pass-System vorgestellt. Wir messen nach unserem Wissen eine Reko-
rdwert von −6.8± 0.3 dB gequetschten Lichts in optischen Fasern. Beruc¨ ktsichtigt

bau(z.B.schlechteInterferenz,Stabilita¨tsprobleme,unerwartetenichtlineareEffekteim
verscha¨nkten Zusta¨nde verringert.
klassischerKommunikation(LOCC)destilliert.Summary
Generation and Distillation of Nonclassical Polarization States of Intense Light
This thesis demonstrates the experimental generation and characterization of con-
tinuousvariable(CV)polarizationsqueezedandpolarizationentangledlightinoptical
fibers, and investigates the quantum distillation protocols for the distribution of these
quantumstates.
Using ultrashort pulses of light in a single pass fiber setup, polarization squeezing
can be efficiently generated. In this thesis, new results of polarization squeezing based
on an optimized single-pass scheme are presented. We measure what is to our knowl-
edgearecordsqueezingof−6.8±0.3dBinopticalfiberswhichwhencorrectedforlin-
ear losses is−10.4±0.8 dB. The measured polarization squeezing is investigated over
awiderangeofinputenergies. Furthermore,simulationsbasedonfirst-principlequan-
tum dynamics and phase-space methods are implemented with very good agreement
between the experiments and the quantum simulations. It is found that excess phase
noise, such as from depolarizing guided acoustic wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS),
affectssqueezingatlowinputenergies,whileRamaneffectscauseaconsiderabledete-
riorationofsqueezingathigherenergiesandlongerfiberlengths.
Inthisthesis,theefficientcreationofhighlyentangledbipartitecontinuousvariable
polarizationstatesisdemonstrated. Polarizationentanglementisgeneratedbyinterfer-
ing two independent polarization squeezed beams on a symmetric beam splitter. The
resultant beams exhibit strong quantum noise correlations. The dependence of mea-
sured correlation on the beam splitting ratio of the entangling beam splitter as well as
otherimperfectionsintheexperimentalsetup(e.g. interferencevisibility< 1,inevitable
phase locking instability, unexpected nonlinear response in the detection system) are
studiedandexperimentallyinvestigated. Furthermore,triplet-likecorrelationproperty
attributedtoCVentangledstatesisdiscussedandexperimentallydemonstrated.
Owing to the uncontrolled and unavoidable losses and decoherence in any real op-
ticalchannel,thetransmittedsqueezingorentanglementwillbedegraded. Distillation
of nonclassical states, which extracts out a small set of highly squeezed or entangled
states from an ensemble of less squeezed or entangled states, is therefore desirable in
quantumcommunicationsystems. Inthisthesisanewdistillationprotocol,whichdeals
with nonclassical quantum states that are afflicted by physical non–Gaussian noise in
a real channel by using linear optical components and global classical communication
(LOCC), is proposed. Moreover, with the above created highly efficient polarization
squeezed and polarization entangled states as the resources, the successful distillation
of squeezing and entanglement are experimentally demonstrated at a cost of certain
successprobability.Contents
