General Portfolio
Builder Tutorial
for all HealthPac members
This general tutorial will assist you in completing
the online Health PAC Portfolio.
Medical (Allopathic & Osteopathic), Dental,
Optometry and Podiatry Applicants:
if you are planning to use the NCSU
Health Professions Review Committee
•Click here (Review Committee Tutorial) for
additional REQUIRED steps Welcome to the Health PAC Application
Portfolio Builder
General Tutorial
 What Is Health PAC Application Portfolio Builder?
This is the CALS/NCSU Health PAC application management
software for students and alumni to compile, organize, and
track their information, accomplishments, and activities for
eventual application to a health-related graduate program.  Who Should Use the Health PAC Application Portfolio
Builder?
• Students applying to professional medical (allopathic or
osteopathic), dental, optometry or podiatry programs, and
who chose to use the NCSU Health Professions Review
Committee when they apply, MUST use the Health PAC
Application Portfolio Builder. This General Portfolio
Builder Tutorial, and the additional Review Committee
Tutorial, are written for these students. Click here to
access the Review Committee Tutorial.
• Students who chose to apply without using the Review
Committee, or whose professional programs are not currently
supported by the Review Committee, (PA, PT, Pharmacy,
Nursing, Chiropractic) MAY use the Application Portfolio
Builder as an organizational tool, but MAY NOT use its
electronic recommendation section. This General Portfolio
Builder Tutorial is written for these students. What Can The Application Portfolio Builder Do For Me?
The Health PAC Application Portfolio Builder is organized into
“lockers” into which you enter or upload information which will
help you and the Health PAC staff identify your areas of strength
and weakness, and provide recommendations for strengthening
your application.
Your portfolio has many key components, all of which you should
keep current . We recommend that you update and/or add to ALL
components of your portfolio at least once a year. The Health
PAC website offers numerous suggestions for activities and
opportunities to help make you a competitive candidate (see 4-
Year Timeline, Additional Resources).
Much of the content of this portfolio may be transferred to your
primary electronic application when you enter an active
application cycle for your desired school or program. Who Has Access To My Application Portfolio?
Your portfolio is available for viewing only by yourself, the
Health PAC staff (Dr. Flick and Ms. Kelley) and any person
you provide with your special access code (such as your
adviser).  How Do I Get Started?
• If you don’t already have a Health PAC account, visit the
website and select: “Join the PAC - Enroll in Health PAC” from
the menu bar on the left.
• You will be directed to submit basic information about yourself
and your healthcare interests . Once you submit your request,
you will receive an email with your Health PAC password (you
can change this password later), confirming your enrollment. You
will also be shown several documents: the Release Authorization,
the Advising Agreement, and the Statement of Intent. You must
read and agree to these in order to access your portfolio.
• Once you have completed these steps, you may open the Health
PAC Portfolio, add or revise any of your information or change
your password, by clicking on the “Application Portfolio Builder
(Member Access)” link and entering your email and assigned
password. What Next?
• When you log in to your portfolio, click the “Use your HealthPAC
Application Portfolio Builder” link to begin creating your database.
• Here you will find the key links for adding information to your

• You will be asked to submit information vital to your
application, such as your contact information, projected
fields of interest, anticipated admission test dates,
major(s)/minor(s), schools attended, GPA, etc.
• It is critical that you keep this and all portfolio
information as current as possible to enable our staff to
track your status, and contact you in the event of questions
or missing items. Step 2: Upload Content Into Lockers
• You may click on the “Upload Content” link to designate
your activities/materials into one of the 7 main content areas
(“lockers”), or their subcategories, listed below (next page).
• Note: some materials, like transcripts, will have to be
copied into a Word or Excel document, saved, and uploaded,
or scanned in.
• It is best to create a separate Word document for each
“locker” listed under Accomplishments (i.e., one Word
document each for academic, clinical, service, and social).
We urge you to update these documents at least annually,
and before each appointment with the Health PAC office.Step 2: Upload Content Into Lockers
