Description
This study, which draws upon a qualitative audience survey in two major North African towns, compares the reception of two French channels (France 2 and TV5) with that of local and Oriental channels. Situated in a context characterized by the upsurge of Islam, the reality of this reception is of as much interest to broadcasters as to viewers themselves. The hypothesis of this study is that others' television is viewed with ambivalence: attraction/rejection. For the first time the author sets a course for a sociology of TV audiences in the Maghreb in the first stages of a competitive offering.
