ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
My sincerest appreciation, with a joyful heart, goes to all and sundry who contributed to making
this PhD research a reality.
Special thanks go to my family (Hagar and Michael), Isaac, John, Grace and Joe, who supported me
whole heartily towards the realization of this academic goal. It was a difficult decision to make.
Nevertheless, having braved all odds, another hurdle has been bridged. May God richly bless you. I
should also put on record the immense help I received from the universities in both countries,
Ghana (University of Cape Coast, Legon and KNUST) and Germany (BTU-Cottbus, Freiburg, and
Stuttgart) who furnished me with some valuable information needed for this study. The list is
endless. To the Ghana Government Ministries of Environment, Science and Technology, Lands and
Forestry, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Resource Management Support Centre of the
Forestry Commission, the Forestry Commission secretariat in Accra, and the Ministry of Tourism, I
say kudos.
I am also grateful to my indefatigable lecturers and the supervisory team, Professor Dr. Dr. h.c
Michael Schmidt and Professor Dr. Daniel Baier, at the Chair of Marketing and Innovations
Management, who patiently and meticulously, supervised this work and without whose suggestions
and guidance this study would not have been possible.
However, I must emphasis that any short comings, marginal or substantial, which may be found in
the text to this work are solely mine.
