FOR HOMOEOPATHIC PREPARATIONS   CORYLUS AVELLANA FOR HOMOEOPATHIC PREPARATIONS   Corylus avellana ad praeparationes homoeopathicas     DEFINITION    Fresh, fragmented stem bark ofCorylus avellanaL.     CHARACTERS    Macroscopic characters described under identification.     IDENTIFICATION    The bark of hazel stem is greyish-brown. The outside surface presents lenticels. The inside surface is darker. The fracture is fibrous.     TESTS   Foreign matter(2.8.2): maximum 5 per cent.   Loss on drying(2.2.32): minimum 40.0 per cent, determined on 5.0 g of finely-cut drug, by drying in an oven at 105 °C for 2 h.       STOCK   

  DEFINITION    Hazel mother tincture complies with the requirements of the general technique for the preparation of the mother tincture (seeHomeopathic Preparations (1038) and French Pharmacopoeia Supplement). The mother tincture is prepared with ethanol (65 per centV/V), using the fresh, fragmented stem bark ofCorylus avellanaL.   Content: minimum 0.15 per centm/mof tannins, expressed as pyrogallol (C 6 H 6 O 3 ;M r  1..)26 1     CHARACTERS    Appearance: brown liquid.
