The « Eléments de Pharmacie » by Baume : Known, unknown, and misunderstood editions. It has been written and constantly repeated that Baumé's « Eléments de Pharmacie » had nine editions, eight of them during his lifetime. Actually, during his lifetime, at least fifteen editions can be counted in the bibliographic sense of the term, that is materially distinct and clearly diff erentiated. Between the « 2nd edition » (1769) and the «3rd edition» (1773) a «new edition» was interspersed (1770) which was a reproduction of the second edition. There are two different editions each for the «3rd» and «5th», with different numbers of pages. To the «7th edition» of 1795- year III was added a «7th edition» of 1797-year VI, which in reality foreshadows the 8th edition ; a claimed « 7th edition » of 1797 is false and actually has the same text as the 5th edition (1784). Finally, two editions of in-12 format, whilst all the others are of in- 8° format, were to this day practically unknown to bibliographers : these are, a «2nd edition» (1769) in three volumes and a claimed « 8th edition» (1797) also in three volumes, which actually reproduces the text of the 7th edition of 1795, and which is certainly a counterfeit. These facts serve to show that the diffusion of the works of Baume has been even greater than was heretofore thought.
Die « Eléments de pharmacie » von Baumé : bekannte, verkannte und unbekannte Ausgaben . Man schreibt und wiederholt ständig das es neun Ausgaben wovon acht zeitlebens Baumé's der « Eléments de pharmacie » gibt. In Wirklichkeit, zeitlebens Baumé's, kennt man mindestens fünfzehn Ausgaben, im bibliographischen Sinne dieses Ausdrucks, dass heisst materiell verschieden, klar differenziert. Zwischen die « 2. Ausgabe» (1769) und die «3. Ausgabe» (1773), schiebt sich eine « neue Ausgabe» (1770), Wiedergabe der 2. Ausgabe. Von der «dritten» und «fünften» Ausgabe gibt es jedesmal zwei Typen mit verschiedenen Seitenzahlen. Der « siebten Ausgabe » von 1795 - Jahr III der Republik reihen sich zu : eine « siebte Ausgabe » von 1797 - Jahr VI der Republik, welche in Wirklichkeit ein Vorläufer der 8. Ausgabe ist, und eine sogenannte « siebte Ausgabe » von 1797 welche eine Fälschung ist und in Wirklichkeit den Text der 5. Ausgabe (1784) wiedergibt. Endlich zwei Ausgaben in in-12 Format (während aile Andere von in-8° Format sind) waren bis zum heutigen Tag den Bibliographen unbekannt : es sind, eine « zweite Ausgabe » (1769) in 3 Bänden und eine vermeintliche « achte Ausgabe » (1797) auch in 3 Bänden, welche in Wirklichkeit den Text der siebten Ausgabe von 1795 wiedergibt, und sicherlich eine Fälschung ist. Diese Tatsachen beweisen dass die Verbreitung des Werkes Baumé's viel grosser noch war, als angenommen.

The « Eléments de Pharmacie » by Baume : Known, unknown, and misunderstood editions. It has been
