Drug jars with portraits of physicians
Among the profusion of ceramic apothecary jars depicting persons famous in history, religion, mythology, etc., are to be found vessels displaying portraits of physicians who achieved repute in Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The jars, a selection which is illustrated, were made either of tin-glazed earthenware in potteries at Faenza, Castelli, Montpellier and in Sicily, or in hard-paste porcelain at a Parisian factory in the nineteenth century.

Unter den zahlreichen Apothekertöpfe mit Porträts berühmter Persönlichkeiten der Geschichte, der Religion, der Mythologie, usw., tragen einige Bildnisse berühmter Ärzte des Altertums und des Mittelalters. Einige Stücke werden vom Verfasser vorgeführt und reproduziert, solche aus Faenza, Castelli, Montpellier und Sizilien, aus dem 16. bis 18. Jt, ein anderes aus Pariser Porzellan, aus dem 19. Jt.
