  DEFINITION    Rhatany mother tincture complies with the requirements of the general technique for the preparation of mother tinctures (seeHomoeopathic Preparations (1038) French and Pharmacopoeia Authority Supplement). The mother tincture is prepared with ethanol (65 per centV/Vdried, usually fragmented, underground organs of), using the Krameria triandraRuiz and Pavon.   Content: minimum 0.4 per centm/mof tannins, expressed as pyrogallol (C 6 H 6 O 3 ;M r 6.1). 21      CHARACTERS    Appearance: reddish-brown liquid.     IDENTIFICATION    Thin-layer chromatography (722.2.).   Test solution. To 10 mL of mother tincture, add 10 mL oflight petroleum R shake. and Separate the ether phase, add 2 g ofanhydrous sodium sulfate R, shake and filter. Evaporate the filtrate to dryness. Dissolve the residue in 0.5 mL ofmethanol R.   Reference solution. Dissolve 10 mg ofdichlorophenolindophenol sodium salt Rand 5 mg of Sudan red G Rin 10 mL ofmethanol R.   Plate:TLC silica gel plate R.   Mobile phase:ethyl acetate R, toluene R(2:98V/V).   Application: 10 µL, as bands.   Development: over a path of 15 cm.   Drying: in air.
