New representations of Christ as Apothecary.
In 1984, the flemish artist Frank-Ivo Van Damme completed two engravings on the theme of the « Apothecary Christ », offering his mystical cure to sin-ridden mankind. A description of these engravings is provided, together with an explanation of their symbolism. One depicts Christ as a spiritual alchemist, capable of giving life back to men by means of untold transmutation, while in the other, He offers Himself as the final cure, showing that, through his own resurrection, he provided the only effective medication towards salvation.
Christus als Apotheker neue Darstellungen.
Der Flämische Künstler Frank-Ivo Van Damme hat 1984 zwei Linoleum-Stiche über das Thema « Christus als Apotheker » ausgeführt, auf welchen Christus der an ihren Schulden leidenden Menschheit seine mystichen Heilmittel darbietet. Die Beschreibung dieser Stiche wird gegeben und ihr Symbolismus erläutert. Der eine stellt Christus als Alchimist dar, der fähig ist, durch die undenkbarste Umwandlung das Leben wiederzugeben, während er, auf dem anderen, sich selbst als Heilmittel opfert und durch seine Auferstehung die rettende Wirksamkeit seines Heilverfahrens beweist.
