On the one hand, high integration costs resultfrom non-machine-interpretable information about supported behavior—i. e., commu-nication protocols. Although that exists at the development time of singleenterprise applications, it is not accessible for the integration team. On the other hand, enterprise applications typically utilize different data exchange formats which compli-cates the identification and integration of identical business relevant object classes (forexample, purchase order). This thesis discusses an ontological approach to simplify the integration whileturning its attention to the scalability of the involved algorithms. The ontologicalapproach abstracts conceptually identical business relevant matters regardless of theirdifferent technical representation and facilitates capturing the behavioral knowledge.
