January - June 1979 Programme Progress Report JRC Ispra January-June 1979 MANAGEMENT OF NUCLEAR MATERIALS AND RADIOACTIVE WASTE Abstract This document is the progress report of the programme Management of Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Waste of the Joint Research Centre for the period January-June 1979. The programme consists of three projects. The main achievements during the reporting period were the following : Project 1 - Evaluation of the long-term hazard of radioactive waste disposal The study for the application of the risk analysis methodology, developed at the JRC, to quantify the probabilistic value of the geological barrier in the Boom (Belgium) clay formation has been completed. Radiation damage studies and leaching tests have been carried out on borosilicate glasses to assess the value of the barrier provided by waste conditioning.
