Volume 2 Part 2
SUMMARY CONTRIBUTION FROM
GRS - BATTELLE (FRG) SUMMARY
The population risk arising from the analysis of the refrigerated
and pressurized storage of ammonia, the corresponding breasting island
and ancillary equipment was analyzed. The fault tree methodology was
used to establish expected frequencies of release, models for the
simulation of the transport of heavy gas and turbulent diffusion of
ammonia were applied to calculate the concentrations in the surroun
dings of the point of release.
Both results served to calculate the risk using the probit relation
ship between concentration and exposition time (dose) and fatalities.
Only the pressurized storage was found to contribute to population
risk.
The present report is a synthesis of the two original reports which
should be consulted for further details.
