FOREWORD
This document comprises a set of 121 synthesis final reports of contracts
financially supported by the Commission (maximum E.C. participation of 50
% of the total cost of each project) in the field of Metals and Minerals
Substances which was a part of the R&D programme in the Raw Materials
Sector (1982-1985).
The fundamental objective of this subprogramme was to reduce the external
dependence of the Community for its raw materials supplies by increasing
its self-supply potential and developing raws technologies.
The subprogramme includes three major research areas : Exploration, Ore
Processing and Mining Technology.
The funds allocated were +/- 17.5 millions ECUS *) subdivided as follows :
EXPLORATION +/- 8 million ECUS (73 reports)
ORE PROCESSING +/- 8nS (41)
MINING TECHNOLOGY +/- 1,5 million ECUS ( 7 reports),
The professional staff assigned to the management of this subprogramme

This document has been compiled in order to meet the Commission and C.G.C,
request for rapid diffusion of the results obtained in the development of
the various research programmes.
The activity developed by this subprogramme allowed the Commission to
develop scientific cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Mines (Washington)
in the areas of Ore Processing and Mining Technology.
*) These amounts are indicative only. They were calculated on the basis of
the national currency and ECU exchange rate at the reference date of
1st July 1983
