Description
Comparison of age structures in Europe.
The paper presents the analysis of the age structures in the european countries, by single year age classes and at the same moment (1st of January 1997), so that the moment effects are registered without time gap or average effect. The results show the effects of the differences in timing of fertilities variation in Eastern, North-Western and Southern-Europe. Furthermore, Germany, Russia, Austria and Italy have in common a strong male war mortality, a pronatalist policy at the end of the thirties, and the weakness of fertility at the end of the second world war and in the following years. The over-representation of males in migration from South to North from the fifties to the seventies and from East to West after WW2 is also emphasized.
