The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions,
within the framework of its four-year rolling programme for 1981-84, is
investigating, among other matters, the question of the effects of
technological development on various areas of private and working life. Four
sectors were chosen to illustrate how, and to what extent, electronic
technology has an impact on the life and work of people who come into contact
with this technology, whether as customers or as employees at their
workplace.
These sectors are:
1) banking and insurance (1981)
2) supermarkets (1982)
3) public service (1983)
4) machine construction and engineering (1984)
The present report on banking and insurance was started in 1981. Four
countries were selected for study - the German Federal Republic, France,
Italy, and the United Kingdom. This report presents the results of the
research in thed.
The European Foundation has also compiled a consolidated report which
presents the most significant data from the national reports according to
topic areas. The interested reader is therefore referred to this report
which is available in all the official community languages from the European
Foundation.
The report also includes the comments of the social partners and the
government representatives, made in the course of an evaluation seminar held
on 20/2l8t October 1983. Read in combination, these comments define the
social and economic context within which the research project is located and
are therefore also relevant to an understanding of this national report. EVALUATION REPORTS EUROPEAN FOUNDATION FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF LIVING AND WORKING CONDITIONS
