La pareja homosexual, habituai e insólita.
En este momento, en que el reconocimiento legal de los lazos afectivos entre homosexuales es una
cuestión candente en Francia, ninguna reflexion basada en datos demográficos permite aclarar la
emergencia de tal reivindicación. A partir de las prácticas de homosexuales « voluntarios » que
contestaron una serie de encuestas sobre los modos de vida de los homosexuales, nos proponemos
evaluar la importancia y la naturaleza de la union homosexual en las biografías individuales. Entre los
homosexuales, la idea de relación estable es relativamente imprecisa y oculta situaciones muy
dispares. El compromiso afectivo de un hombre por otro puede asumir diferentes formas : con o sin
cohabitation, con o sin exclusividad sexual, sin que ninguna de estas modalidades de union se imponga
como modelo prédomi- nante. El hecho de haber tomado conciencia de la magnitud de la epidemia de
sida en su grupo de perte -nencia trajo aparejado un repliegue muy coyuntural en la pareja. Pasado ese
período, los homosexuales se inclinan cada vez mas por la vida en común, lo que no excluye la
posibilidad de tener compañeros sexuales exteriores a la pareja. Senalemos que este movimiento se
inició en ausencia de reconocimiento del vínculo homosexual, así como de todo lazo jurídico y social.
Senalemos además que fue iniciado por habitantes de ciudades pertenecientes a los sectores más
acomodados de la clase media ; son ellos quienes a menudo impulsan las nuevas normas de vida
entre los homosexuales. Actualmente se observa una evolución simultánea de una idea menos
institucionalizada de la pareja en el seno de la población heterosexual y de una mirada no tan crítica de
la sociedad respecte de la homosexualidad. Con todo, la preponderancia de la « vida solitaria », la
experiencia de numerosas rupturas, aunque también el hecho de que para una mayoría de hombres el
reconocimiento de un vínculo afectivo no siempre es sinónimo de fidelidad siguen distinguiendo el estilo
de vida homosexual del de la mayoría heterosexual. En este contexte, es difícil determinar en que
medida la acción política en favor del reconocimiento de la pareja homosexual puede ser sustituida por
la demanda de aquellos hombres, cada vez más numerosos, que se comprometen materialmente con
su cónyuge y que desean prolongar ese compromiso mediante un acto legal o, por el contrario, en que
medida los propios interesados pueden dejarla de lado, teniendo en cuenta las formas particulares que
asumen las relaciones profundas para una mayoría de homosexuales.

Ein ungewöhnlicher Normalzustand -homosexuellenpaare.
Keinerlei demographische Daten stehen zur Verfügung, um Reflexionen über das Aufkommen der
gegenwärtig breit diskutierten Forderungen der rechtlichen Anerkennung gefühlsmäßiger Bindungen
zwischen Homosexuellen zu untermauern. So wird im vorliegenden Artikel zur Beurteilung von Gehalt
und Stellenwert homosexueller Beziehungen in individuellen Lebensabläufen von der Darstellung des
konkreten Verhaltens « freiwilliger » Homosexueller in einer Reihe von Untersuchungen liber Gay-
Lebensweisen ausgegangen. Hinter dem für Homosexuelle relativ vagen Begriff der festen Verbindung
können sich erhebliche Unterschiede der gelebten Praxis verbergen. Das gefühlsmäßige Engagement
eines Mannes für einen anderen kann in ganz verschiedener Form geschehen : Gemeinsame oder
getrennte Wohnung, fester oder wechselnder Partner, ohne daß eine dieser Spielarten als
vorherrschendes Modell herausragen würde. Nach Abschluß einer an das Gewahrwerden der
Ausbreitung der Aids-Epidemie in ihrer Gemeinschaft geknüpften, äußerst temporären Phase der
Reduzierung auf die Zweierbeziehung neigen Homosexuelle nunmehr zunehmend zu einem Leben zu
zweit, ohne daß damit notwendigerweise die Möglichkeit eines externen sexuellen Partners
ausgeschlossen wäre. Festgehalten sei, daß sich diese Entwicklung bei Abwesenheit jeder offiziellen
Anerkennung homosexueller Beziehungen und ohne alle juristischen und sozialen Bindemittel vollzieht,
und daß sie von Mitgliedern der oberen Mittelklasse eingeleitet wurde, die schon häufig den Anstoß zu
neuen Lebensstandards Homosexuellen gegeben haben. Trotz paralleler Entwicklungen zu einer
weniger institutionalisierten Partnerschaft in der heterosexuellen Bevölkerung und einer weniger
kritischen Haltung der Gesellschaft der Homosexualität gegenuber, läßt das Übergewicht des «Lebens
als Einzelner», das Erlebnis zahlreicher Trennungen, aber auch die Tatsache, daß für eine Mehrzahl
von Männern das Eingeständnis einer gefühlsmäßigen Beziehung nicht zwangsläufig absolute Treue
bedeuten muß, den homosexuellen Lebensstil weiterhin als von dem der heterosexuellen Mehrheit
verschieden erscheinen. So ist in diesem Zusammenhang schwierig festzustellen, inwieweit diepolitische Aktion zugunsten der Anerkennung homosexueller Partnerschaften tatsächlich seitens der
männlichen Betroffenen durch die wachsende Nachfrage gestützt würde, sich materiell einem
bestimmten einzigen Partner gegenuber festzulegen und dieses Engagement dann durch einen
gesetzlichen Akt zu besiegeln, oder inwieweit sie anderseits von der Mehrzahl der Homosexuellen
wegen der besonderen Formen dieser Partnerwahl nicht wahrgenommen werden wird.
Abstract
Ordinary Odd Couples : homosexual unions.
At a moment when legal recognition of the affective bond between homosexuals is much in the news,
no statistical study exists which might shed some light on the emergence of such a demand. Based on
the practices of a number of homosexual « volunteers » interviewed in a series of surveys on gay
lifestyles, we propose an assessment of the place and the nature of homosexual unions in individual
biographies. Among homosexuals, the notion of stable relationship is relatively vague and conceals a
great disparity in situations. A man's affective commitment to another man takes different forms : with or
without co-habitation, with or without sexual exclusivity, none of which has established itself as a pre-
eminent model. Following a temporary retreat into the couple, which was linked to the awareness of the
magnitude of the AIDS epidemic in their group, homosexuals are increasingly drawn to the idea of living
together without excluding the possibi- lity of having sexual partners outside the couple. It should be
noted that this trend began before any official recognition of the homosexual relation or any legal or
social tie, and that it was initiated by upper-middle-class urban-dwellers who are often the instigators of
new living standards in the homosexual community. In spite of the concomitant progression of a less
traditional idea of the couple in the heterosexual population and a less critical view of homosexuals by
society at large, the preponderance of the « solitary life», the experience of numerous break-ups, but
also the fact that, for a majority of men, recognition of an affective bond is not always synonymous with
faithfulness, still sets the homosexual lifestyle apart from that of the heterosexual majority. In such a
context, it is hard to know to what extent the political action in favor of recognition of homosexual
couples will be taken up by the growing number of men with a material commitment to their companion
and who would like to give it a legal reality, or, on the contrary be neglected by those concerned
because of the particular forms of elective relationships characteristic of a majority of homosexuals.
