They represent considerable labour, thespread over past sixteen or seventeen domain biblio-years, in a of graphical study which has, in modern days, received but little attention. Indeed it will, it is believed, foundbe on examination that most of the matter incorporated in the present volume is both new in substance as a contribution to our systematic bibliographical kncnvledge and original in the form in which it is cast.
