With the help of unpublished documents concerning one Pierre Gransault, born in 1758 into a medical family, the author discusses how one became a ship's surgeon at that time and the circumstances of life on board. Charged with healing the sick and injured, the ship's surgeon availed himself of a pharmacy chest furnished by an apothecary. The author publishes the contents of this chest from the ship « L'Aimable Thérèse », from Bordeaux, in 1778. Ein Seechirurg am Ende des 18. Jts. An Hand von unveröffentlichten Dokumenten welche Pierre Gransault betreffen 1758 geboren und aus einer Arztefamilie stammend, zeigt der Verfasser auf welche Weise man damals Seechirurg wurde und welches die Situation eines solchen an Bord war. Damit beauftragt die Kranken und Verwundeten zu betreuen, verfügte der Seechirurg über einen, von einem Apotheker gelieferten Arzneikoffer.
