Description
Reconstitution of land allotment in a Roman estate on the villa in Tourmont (Jura) is the aim of the present study. The site plan discovered by aerial archeology, and the surrounding area have been analysed. By using aerial photographs, medieval sources, and the « Napoleonic » cadastral maps in particular, two Roman cadastres and the medieval road network have been discovered, and their mutual relations have been investigated. The use of microtoponymy and palynology provide a deeper understanding of the landscape and the economy of the Roman fundus. An interpretation of the historical role of the villa has been offered.
