In the light of the entry of Austria, along with Finland and Sweden into the European Union in
January 1995, CEDEFOP is pleased to be able to provide in this volume some information
concerning the vocational education and training system in Austria.
This is the translation of a document prepared by the Austrian authorities. This initiative was
launched in 1991, parallel to the CEDEFOP project concerned with the preparation of
monographs on each of the 12 Member States, which have been published recently.
This report on Austria is not identical either in its structure or its presentation to these
monographs published by CEDEFOP, but CEDEFOP thought it would be useful to provide
(through translation into English and French) information on the Austrian training system to a
wider audience. CEDEFOP during 1995 and 1996 will take the initial necessary steps to prepare,
translate and publish monographs on the three new Member States, and eventually also on
Norway and Iceland.
